Carlsson, Renntech, Eisenmann, and Supersprint are a few I can name off the top of my head. Loudest would easily be the Eisenmann. And, none are cheap.

$2300 for mufflers is cheap? they're mufflers, not new technology...they should be a few hundered at the most. find a good exhaust shop and have them weld up some magnaflows or something if you're just looking for sound improvement.

Baller! Your definition of cheap and mine are different.

Eisenhaus is the US distributor that sells Eisenmann.

You won't lose power by just changing out the stock mufflers and replacing with aftermarket exhausts e.g. Magnaflow or Borla.

without moving up to headers, changing the primary or secondary cats, or deleting the resonator i don't think you have to worry about gaining or losing performance by just swapping mufflers. any quality brand that you can get to fit should be fine.

...but yes, people have used magnaflows.

btw, a little birdie told me corsa performance will be releasing a new line of high end systems soon.

So you saying that if a person removes the resonators you will loose power?

You could make some serious money if you designed parts for AMG and ///M class cars for cheap that were still high quality. It could be done too if someone had the ***** to do it. Sure, margins would be low, but the amount of product you would move would bring in the cash to make up for it.

There is absolutely NO REASON why a bunch of metal pipes bent to a certain spec should cost anywhere near 3k. Parts alone cant be more than 1k for a rear muffler system.

absolutely not. i was saying that a person doesn't need to worry about gaining or losing power if all they're doing is replacing mufflers because the only real effect will be sound. it's only when you start playing with multiple components of the exhaust system do you need to worry about putting the right parts together and making or losing power.

+1. You have know how the exhaust system works from headers, primary cats, crossover, secondary cats, resonator to mufflers.

don't mess with your exhaust system...

too much $$ for no gains and somewhat improved sound..

the AMG design is pretty good for OEM.

I'm not so sure about that. IMO, by combining a free flowing exhaust, CAI, and remappped ECU there will be a noticeable gain especially from a 55 engine.

the stock AMG exhaust flows pretty well. Delete the cats and resonator for better flow.

I should have clarified. By free flow exhaust, I meant the exhaust system as a whole from the primary cats back. I can see how it can be construed as just the muffler. My mistake.

The stock is set up like a CAI, no gains will be had from improving that.

To anyone who said not to get an exhaust and just get a mangaflow muffler custom made at a muffer shop should be driving a v6 mustang instead of an E55.

I would have to agree on an e55, the stock exhaust after the primary cats is all you need imho.

if you can show me the major technological and performance differences between a $3k high end brand muffler and any other decent quality stainless steel, flow through, perforated core design muffler...i'll retract my statement.

now if you want name brand because of perceived value or possible resale value then that's a different topic.

Hey chiromikey:

ANY good aftermarket muffler accomplishs the same thing. You are spot on about WHY anyone wants a 3K exhaust, as there is NO resale vaule. Okay bragging rights maybe. I have tried NUMEROUS brands and they all make the same power. Some do last longer than others, and some might look better, but WHO CARES. Keep in mind that I am ONLY talking about mufflers here. YES you can get some gains if you replace the cats, resonator, pipes, and mufflers BUT if your stock it will be SMALL.

The AMG mufflers make DA-- GOOD power and unless you are HEAVILY modified, or just want MORE noise, this is a waste of money and time, IMHO

Remove the resonator if you want noise, but save your dollars for REAL world gains.

And yes, to dis-believers, show me same day dynos or drag reults, and I will gladly retract these words and buy you a beer

See yeah
