***Chicago Crew*** Byron on Sunday, October 28th!

Guys & Gals.

I want to first apologize for this being so last minute, I just got back from Asia this week and things have just been insane for me. I have tried, in vain, to try and find a track to rent our as I had discussed previously, but for a number of reasons, that is simply not possible. There is really only 1 non-NHRA track that I would consider renting out, and that is Byron. The unfortunate thing is that in talking with the owners over there track rental is simply not possible on weekends because they just don't offer it - they do too much business with regular Test & Tune.

Anyways, I thought we should just get a small group of us out there and if there are enough of us I could get us our own lane if people want that. It's kind of nice to have our own lane to expedite things but it's also nice to line our cars up against other cars at the track to see what we can really do.

I will be going, regardless of attendance, so come if you can! I have some local car guys from other groups going as well, so there will be a small group as is. We will most likely meet at Streets of Woodfield early in the morning, grab some coffee, and then head out on 90 to the track. Please let me know if you are able to attend.

Marcus: unfortunately I won't be able to make the 10/28 meet. BUT, check out ChicagoX's thread for the meet on 11/10 at US 41 Dragway. You should definitely attend that one

J,

I will do that, I wasn't aware of another drag meet. I do like Byron more than US 41, but I wouldn't mind hitting the track twice.

YSP,

Probably around 10am?

SoW is out of your way, I'd head straight from the track if you're coming from Madison.

I agree w/ X55 - although you are more than welcome to put on the extra few miles if you want to meet up with us.

Thanks to everyone who showed, we had a decent crowd! It was a great drive there, and a good day for racing. I managed a personal best of 12.1 @ 113mph. My trap is a little lower than I would have wanted, but I was able to make the most out of it. My previous E55 trapped only slightly higher when it was around ~30F cooler out, so I think this '05 probably has a bit more power in the same settings. At the end of November I'll be dropping it off at CPT for some special treatment. We'll be doing a nice full bolt-on build up from the ground up with full documentation and most importantly, DYNOs. By next season it should really have woken up.

Was great to meet everyone, I ran a personal best in my '01 N/A of 13.44, down from 13.75 with just replacing secondary cats & resonator with straight pipe and K&N filters in stock airbox.

Next up, a new intake system that doesn't get heat soaked and studying the launches of the 55K guys who were ripping 1.8-1.90 60 foot times compared to my 2.1!

FYI everyone,

After doing some investigating, I'm convinced that there was something wrong with the trap speed equipment at Byron. I had a discussion with a few other guys and looking at the facts it seems pretty conclusive. Everything else adds up - 60', 1/8th mile ET, 1/8th mile MPH, 1/4 mile ET... but the trap speed does not. I don't think it's necessary to post up the whole story here, but suffice to say it looks like it was a progressive miscalculation - meaning that for the W210, it's probably off around 2mph (meaning, it read 2mph lower) and for the higher trapping cars 4-6mph.

Email me if you'd like more info. If you don't care about trap speed, this is irrelevant as the ETs are correct.

Wish I could have made it. Maybe next time. Marcus sounds like you have some future mods planned out. Let me know how things are progressing.

Maybe by spring my other car will be running again, I'll be looking for you at RSD.

Hey Marcus,
I don't know if this adds anything, but at Byron I was trapping 118 consistently, and at Great Lakes Tuesday nite I got in 8 runs most with traps 120+. I also finally got into the 11's despite all 60's being 2.+

Icandr55,

Actually this seems to be an isolated incident over the past two weeks. People have been to Byron earlier in the season and saw their trap speeds drop, sometimes significantly.

I almost hit 93mph in the 1/8th but the traps I was getting make absolutely no sense given my ET and my 1/8th mile performance. That's why I'm pointing to the trap - it's the only data point that "doesn't fit"
