Tire Break-In

Guys - I replaced my rear PS2's with a new set two weeks ago. I am spinning all over the place. Any idea how long before the tires start to bite?

I'm participating in a track rental on Monday and have one set up for 12/5. I'd hate to show up and have poor traction.

From what I've heard, it takes about 500 miles to scrub off all of the release compound.

Hate to break it to you, but PS2s are not track friendly. They overheat fast and get squishy. Usually, 200 miles is enough to get them going. Make sure you lower the air pressure and get the sidewalls scrubbed up too.

I am going to be doing lots of driving this weekend, I think. And lighting up the rears every chance I get.

They don't seem to be too unfriendly.

unfortunately, where you live, it's getting pretty cold. a well broken in tire requires good heat cycling, which you probably won't get unless you have tire warmers and you do roasting burnouts.

hopefully you get some good sun, and drive on heat loaded asphalt. do some agressive driving to get some good heat into them.

Sorry, I did not mean the drag strip. I meant a road course. PS2s do very well at the drag for a Z rated tire, since they do have such a soft sidewall.

It takes 100-200 miles for the mold release to wear off and the tire to "condition" a bit.

Thanks, guys. I don't think that they will be ready for Monday, but they will be set for 12/5 at Atco.
