Yes, that is exactly what I am saying MAY be happening.

The VRP ones have better gains than the K&Ns but they let fine particulates through. If you will not be in a very dusty area, then it is a thought. I got rid of mine and am back to the K&Ns.

+1 for Neal and customer service.

Yeah, please DO check your airbox.

I called Green Filters and they're sending replacements and a cleaner free of charge. (Thanks for the number Neal). Good service, I hope the quality has improved.

BTW, I think I have about 10k on these filters and cleaned them about 6k ago.

Filters starting to seperate:

Pulled out from airbox and tore apart!

What's inside?

What came out?

You said you cleaned them out 6K miles ago.... so dirty.... where did you drive it?

I just checked my OEM filter last weekend. The rubber trims still look good and it was still pretty clean (only some fine but black sand/dust).... the last time I changed them was about 4-5K miles ago.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Hope it doesn't mean that mines don't catch the dirt, hence, stay clean... LOL.

Did you take the benz offroading or something? Got really drunk and forgot you weren't in the range rover? lol

I have never seen so much crap in one filter.

Well, I go offroading about once a week. I've found that the SLK is a great car for rally cross. Yeah right....

Seriously, I drive in normal everyday weather. No dirt roads or back roads. There is new construction around by I don't drive thru that either. Looking at the debri closely, I must have about 4 bees (did I hit a hive?). The rest of the debri looks like a little sand and broken leaves. Also, the picture shows just end of the filter. The other end is relatively clean. It mainly accumulates on the engine side.

The message is simple. Clean your filters. Check your filters for tearing. You too might be surprised.

Lastly, remember my pic is from a NA SLK55. It could be potentially worse on a supercharged engine if it requires more air.

Well, I am on the highway often and it's not 100% pavement where I live. However, it's not farm country either.

I'm gonna get the new filters installed and check them every 1k. Besides, it's only a 5 min job to check and 15 mins to clean.

If I detect any seperation in the new filters, I will switch to BMC.

PS. My current filters had nothing on them (ie EEC). Does this mean I had the 'new' versions? I will soon compare the replacements being shipped to my current set. I'll keep you guys posted.

I sure took some flames over the time I have posted this (previous time included), but if it saves just one 55 motor, it's worth it.

Plus you guys owe me a beer.

Anyone who has a problem they said to call them direcly and they will replace them with the new ones under warranty. Their phone # is 724-430-2050 you can ask to speak to anyone in tech support. If you do not reach anyone there, ask for Jason.

Rafal, since you are out of the US, do not bother contacting them, I spoke with them about you and they are sending me new ones for you which i will have sent to you. I am going to PM you now so that you can give me your shipping address.
I took out the spare ones I have in the box(have k&n's in the car currently) and didnt see the "eec" stamped on them. They do feel kinda flimsey though. These should be cool right?

I use the greens when my K&n's are drying after cleaning.

They SHOULD be fine if EEC is not on it at all. If you do run them, just to be safe, check them after a few hundred miles to look for stress.
