WTB e55 Wagon... will I find a deal on one?
I know these are few & far between but it also seems it's a very "niche" product. Most wagon owners don't seem to care about high performance... it's almost an oxymoron! But some of us seem to love them!
Anyway, I've decided to keep my CLK55A (would get clobbered on trade-in) to have a "fun" car & supplement it with an e55 Wagon which I need for long freeway drives. To this end, there is an '05 with 40K+ miles for $60K. Clean carfax, good options, non-CPO. (Mileage scares me, but on the other hand, if it's been driven regularly, maybe that's better for the car?) What should I expect to pay for one like this? Others seem to have lower mileage, with asking prices in the low $70Ks, which seems pretty high.
If anyone has feedback on these higher mileage "beasts" & whether or not I should stay with a lower mileage one, I'd appreciate it. My best guess is that I'll be driving around 12-15K miles/yr. I had a BMW 5-series wgaon that went downhill once I passed the 50K mile mark. Had loved the car until then, but got too frustrated with it (not to mention expensive upkeep). Don't want to experience the same with an AMG wagon!
If anyone knows of an e55 wagon for sale, I'd love to know about it. Thanks very much!

Trust me, some of us care about performance
The price on that one is too high. Just as a reference, I bought my 05 in July. It's reasonably loaded. It has 20K miles and is a CPO car and I paid $56K.
Do NOT buy an E55 that is not CPO. (my opinion).
They're pretty rare (something like 126 in 05 and under 70 in 06) but they can be found.
Autotrader currently lists 6 05/06 in the US.
You can definitely beat the price you quoted. Just be prepared to travel to the car. I bought mine in Virginia. Flew up from Florida and drove it home.
I LOVE mine.

wow..so 6 total in the entire US...guessing mostly if not all 05's.....

my 05 had 20k on it when i purchased it several weeks ago. paid $54k. they had it for 40 days and were ready to send it away to auction, i guess. seems the low production numbers are an accurate reflection of low demand.
don't ask me though- my last 3 cars have been 'performance' wagons.

2006 E55 Wagon (RIP), 2019 E63S Wagon (Sold) 2023 AMG GT634S
I guess I was really lucky - bought my 2006 at MB Manhattan last year (December 28th - they really wanted it GONE in 2006) NEW for $73,500.
After seeing how many were made - I don't expect to see many for sale.
It is the ultimate sleeper vehicle.
Only problem is that no one even tries to jump you from the light.
I've had one person say what a cool car because he knew what it was.
It's a tremendous car and perhaps the finest long haul car I have ever owned. The seats are outstanding and it does just about everything well.
Good luck in your quest - I agree with the fact that you only want a CPO car.

Thanks for the input!
OK, so good advice & I'm convinced to only consider CPO wagons (whenever they become available!). How much would you offer on the wagon with 40K+ miles with CPO? Also, would you then buy the extended warranty beyond the CPO one? I can definitely see keeping this one for awhile.
TScales & Traffic53 - Wow! Had you looked for your wagons for awhile. How optioned out are they? What were the asking prices?
red60R - Did you buy yours at a local MB dealer?
D bst - Thanks. It's interesting but the e63 at FJ was actually at a Porsche dealer first, listed for $11K less than FJ is asking! The '06 only no options & for that kind of money, I need some options!
Uber -Your name says it all... great stuff! Lucky you getting a brand new one for such a deal. Sticker must've been in the $90Ks? Glad to hear it's the right choice on a long haul. I actually like the G55s a lot too, but hear they're brutal on a long drive (comfort-wise).
BTW, what kind of gas mileage do you guys get around town & on the freeway?
Thanks again!

I dream about buying one of these bad boys some day. Hopefully sometime late in '08 if things go well at work...
How troublesome are they? I was figuring by '05 - '06 most of the bugs would be sorted out. I ask b/c I plan on picking one up from the U.S. since I've been told that their are ike 12 - 15 wagons in all of Canada ( + the price would be like 20K cheaper in the U.S.) Obviously if I buy one from the U.S., my warranty will be voided once I have it up here.

My situation was a bit unique. I had been trying to sell my supercharged 540 wagon for a couple months. We were leaving on a 3,000 mile vacation -- in the wagon -- on Saturday.
On Monday, a buyer took away the 540. So, Monday afternoon I searched and searched every resource looking for a car. Thought I'd go with the 550, but knew I really wanted the E55.
Found two in black, the color I wanted. One in Oregon. One in Virginia. I'm outside Orlando.
Did a deal over the phone Tuesday, pending inspection. Asking price was $59,995. I offered $56,000 out the door, which was actually about $52,000 before fees, taxes, etc. They kept turning me down until I talked directly to the sales manager.
I asked him the obvious question. You're in the middle of Virginia, in a fairly small town. How many people there even know what an E55 is, let alone have an interest in a $60K wagon.
He took the deal. I flew up Wednesday morning, drove it home Wednesday and Thursday and left on the trip on Saturday. Fantastic road car (as long as mileage isn't your goal).
It gets attention -- occasionally. Several of my neighbors know what it is, but I get as much drool on my 08 Corvette as I do on the E55. OK, a few drool on the Prius, but that's a whole different story.
If you have never driven one, the rush is incredible.
If you haven't read this review, it is a fun read:

MBWorld Fanatic!
Be patient. It took me several months before I found mine on ebay. These wagons are few and far between. When I did find my, I haggled with the dealer back and forth for about 2 weeks - b/c I knew very few people wanted such wagons AND so did the dealer. The dealer finally took my offer. I purchased mine over 13 months ago, with less then 12k miles and under $70k. So your $60k price with 40k + miles, might seem on the higher end. If you can, I suggest you also purchase an extended warranty. Good luck.

Found my '05 last year on AutoTrader - flew to ATL to pick it up. At the time there were about 6 or 7 nationwide for sale. Good luck!

Same story. I looked for what seems months until I got the right car and then had to drive it home 1000 miles. When I think about that drive it seems like I can remember every mile. I was on cloud nine as the wait was so worth it.
It truely is a rare beast and I have never seen another on the road. I wish you the best of luck finding one and when you do make sure you post pics.

I had the K2 installed 15 months ago shortly after getting the car. I had it done by a racing outfit called KTR who are outside Boston. Kleemann recomended them as they had done one previously to mine. There really aren't many shops here in New England working with MB so I had little choice. They did a great job BTW. There are many options available when doing the pulley and headers and certainly cheaper ones, but I believe that you get what you pay for and Kleemann's support has been great.
I've since installed most everything else available and I'm pretty close to finishing up (i hope)

A bit OT but since this thread has the attention of you wagon owners, anybody else besides me having issues with the motorized cargo cover? I've had it quit a couple of times halfway, like it ran out of power...seems to happen when it's cold.

They must have raised the price to $63K to cover the 55 gallon drum of ArmorAll they used all over everything.
The glare hurt my eyes.
Other than they - first pass says it's a nice car.

04 - 06 e55 Wagon - looking for
From a previous post, I believe that wagon was purchased by one of the forum members for $60K +/-. A full inspection was performed by a Mercedes dealership and they said the car was perfect and needed nothing!

Yes... he did end up buying that one in VA. Although I believe I read some posts where he's had a couple of issues (that should be covered under warranty).
I ended up finding an '06 3 weeks ago. CPO'd & I bought an extra year thru MBZ since I figure this is a keeper. Perfect condition & love it! Enjoy driving the wagon more than my CLK55 convertible!

06 e55 wagon
Yep, that was me ... bought it for $60K even. I love it to death but am trying to work out a few minor issues still: hesitation on acceleration that seems like the supercharger clutch, right rear wheel is bent (going to be replaced by the dealer next week), dynamic seats turn themselves off randomly, and also the previous owner seems a bit careless with some minor damage to the rear bumper (support broken off underneath) and a scrape under the front air dam. You never see these types of things immediately, however I don't regret it at all. I'll work out all the issues and hopefully enjoy some mods soon as well.

Roar - I'm beginning to think now....did you pick up your car in N. Cal? Was it complelty debaged except for the e55 on the rear tailgate.

I came very close to that e55 in the Bay Area. Had almost every option, but it had high mileage (relatively speaking) & was not CPO'd. Was told they sold it for $57,500. Also told that was a trade-in from a regular customer who always orders his cars de-badged.
I bought mine from a dealer in So Cal. I had my CLK55 in for service & told my SA that I would love an e55 wagon. He called me a couple of days later to tell me they had just taken a very clean one in on trade & I ended up buying it. Absolutely love it!!!
I've wanted one for a while and looked at a few, but passed on them for one reason or another (picky!). Glad I waited

Right on. I'm looking, but not in a hurry. And you can bet I'll let this forum know when I join the club. Believe it or not, my first add-on to the car will be roof racks
Yes, I need an insanely quick and fast four wheel hunk of steel to transport my road bikes up and down the pacific coast - just so I can average a 21 - 23 mph on my weekend bike rides. Now that is the best of both world I must say
