Please send me as many details on your car and dyno as you can.

Your baseline is a bit low. I need:

1. Dyno graph with A/F
2. How many fans did the dyno have?
3. How many miles on the car?
4. Stock air filters?

Thank you!

1. Sunil made copies of all the dynos, he can probably fax them to you. Otherwise I'll scan mine and put them up tonight.
2. One large fan
3. 14,000 miles
4. Yes, stock air filters. I wanted a set of VRP ones but was told only if I bought an airbox, which I did for my E55. Victor said he'd get me a set for my SLK55, but I just traded that for this SL.

Here's the dynos.

Small correction. Before 403HP/440TQ and after 432HP/494TQ.
So 29HP and 54 TQ gain.

HP/TQ Before

AFR Before

Before vs After HP/TQ

After HP/TQ

After AFR

That is so funny. I see Enginelogics on the dyno. Chris is who built my entire bottom end and ported the head. He is the best in the business period. If i ever wanted my Mercs head or bottom end built he would be the one. Ask him about Samans 1000HP supra and he will tell you

Now back to your dyno. It actually looks pretty good. The reason your numbers are less is because you were on a DynoDynamics dyno. This will read about ~10-15% lower. You just need to throw the car on a dynojet so you can do an apples to apples comparison. Hope that helps.

That would mean my stock RWHP would be 440-460 on a dynojet. That would be a little odd. That would also only translate into 32 HP gain after the mods.

I agree, regardless of dyno type if you did before and after runs the delta-difference is what matters, the car should have picked up more power imho. What pulley size do you have the asp equivalent or the smaller ?

Did you have access to a scanner to read the iats, I know you have a johnson pump is the system separated ? The reason I ask is because sometimes the system is a pain in the butt to bleed.

No we didn't. It's the stock system with just the johnson pump added. My after dynos were all very consistent, unless they were all consistently heat soaked. I suppose that's possible. There was some air in the system which I got taken care of now(I think). I have a dyno on a dynojet scheduled for tomorrow. I put a bunch miles on the new ECU whereas before it was fresh off the truck, we'll see how it turns out. It's the same dyno my brand new stock E55 turned out a staggering 398.6 on.

Good luck and keep us posted, don't worry even if there is a problem I'm sure the vrp team will fix it.

Robert,

You need to give the ECU some time to adapt so make sure you put 150 - 200miles on it before you dyno. Doing the dyno right away after the install was mainly to make sure nothing went really wrong and to check on your A/F.

You will notice the car will get stronger and stronger as you put more mileage on it.

I'm also curious about the baseline. I always say not to get hung up on the actual numbers, but on the curve itself. The difference in mine is stunning. It is NOT subtle and can in no way be ignored. Assuming you got the same tune I did, I just don't see why you wouldn't get similar butt dyno results.

Another thing for everyone to keep in mind is that not all deltas are comparable, either. It isn't a linear relationship. If all you really care about is seeing a number (ahem, charles), then just run from dyno to dyno until you get a number you like. It literally means nothing. I'd personally look at the dyno graph and compare the curves and A/F ratios to other 55s. That should show you where the shape of the curve has changed AND what the A/F is up to.

I just ordered a new datalogger. I had gotten the old one from Sears for about $200. It is a great way to see how the car is acting in the real world. I know that Vadim gathered a butt load of data on my car as they worked the tune.

What gear was that run in? Why does the before Dyno not hit the limiter?

The curves look really good to me. The only odd one I see is the last one. The A/F/ seems to dump to below 11 in mid range and then picks back up and dumps to below 11 at the top. The other curves look good, so it may have just been a run anomoly.

I've put a good hard 300 miles on it, the trip back to Dallas was 230 miles by itself. I was running it pretty hard the whole way back. Really really hard for about 50 miles when a CLK63 came up behind me. We were both going the same way so we figured lets have some fun. Hit the speed limiter a ton of times and generally zipped by the slowpokes chasing each other at 120-140. Then when 2 lanes would open line up and floor it. Unfortunatly the CLK63 ate my lunch quite a few times, he always seemed to get the jump on me but I was able to keep him from gaining any more. I pulled away a few times at lower speeds but he had me at higher ones.

Oh yes. I am planning to mod this thing a bit more before I just start commuting in it. The only reason I waited for now is to give Vadim and Powerchip a chance to finally stir up the technical pot. There is still a great deal of unknowns about these cars and its nice to see a tuner step up and be willing to go into that darkness. One thing I would remind any first timers on. Modding a car is not always the easiest thing and things can go wrong at times. The key is how your tuner treats you, your car, and the situation. I was ready to do pulley, TB, headers all at once, but wanted to give Vadim the platform to do his thing. It may take me a bit longer to get the right mods on the car, but in the end it will be a much more refined tune than if I had done it myself.

3rd gear runs. The before ones do hit the limiter. It looks like the after ones may not have though, either that or the scale is just wierd.

The green run that dropped below 11 was actually the middle run, look at the file names.

Woah, if the CLK was pulling on you, then something is off. If it is that he got the jump on you, then fine. But my car pulls like a beast from 3K on.

Well, then there is one issue. You need to dyno in 4th to keep it consistent. 4th gear is as close to a 1:1 ratio that we have.

Its great that you can be hands on and see the progress, wonder how much you have picked up??

My times improved 1/10th adding the pulley, moving the IAT sensor, and adding the spacers. from 12.40's to 12.30's trap speeds are yup maybe 1/2 mph.

Here is Chiromikeys run

I'm really curious to see how it does not. It feels really nice and I am so ready to spank some 63 butt with it!!

If your ecu was flashed you should not be hitting the speed-limiter. If you experienced something like that then the dme was shutting the blower off due to high iat's.

I don't know if thier tune raises the limiter or not. They might not have.

He had me just about every time. The limiter is what kept him from getting away, he was usually 2+ cars ahead of me when we hit it.

I have not been able to hit the limiter since the tune and I have seen 175.

That isn't right. They should be fairly close if both are stock. the 63 breathes a little better up top and the 55 has a little more grunt down low, but all in all they are VERY close. Now, having done the mods you have, you should be spanking a 63. Maybe not mutilation, but a steady pull every time would be expected. Again, it may be the driver getting the jump on you. No disrespect intended, but jumps count for much more than raw power.
