Way Off Topic...Anyone In the Insurance Industry?

On xmas morning my warehouse went up in flames (100,000 sq feet completely torched). It is still under investigation as to the cause whether it was arson or an electrical fire. We lost all security footage in the fire so I dont think it will ever be known what happend. My insurance carrier is basically trying to deny coverage saying that this was an act of nature! Earthquakes and floods, sure thats nature but not fire. They claim the wooded areas sorrounding the building were to blame (funny how they dont care to even wait for the fire depts report). This happend so recently that I am at a loss for words, Im just so confused. We have been paying for years and never filed any claims, and now my insurance company is basically saying tough luck. The building was owned in full with no loans and if I am not reimbursed this could lead to financial disaster for my family and I.

Any tips on what I can do or where to go from here? I talked to a couple attorneys this afternoon and both wanted hefty retainers...apparently contingency is not something lawyers are willing to work on anymore.

For something like this you need a good attorney. Sorry to hear about your loss. What evidence do they have to substansiate that mother of nature caused this?

Very sorry to hear about that. I'm glad no one got hurt.

The fire department report should be your strongest hand against the insurance company. And like Duane posted, a good lawyer is a must. If it does go to court and the lawyer wins, you should be able to also ask for lawyer fees

Wow what a terrible Christmas present.

Who is the insurance company?

I see you're in Colorado Springs, what is the name of your company and where is the warehouse located exactly?

I own a Farmers Financial and Insurance agency down here in So. CA, and I've never seen anything denied by act of nature... it really doesn't matter how a fire starts it's covered... if you really want me to dig into this PM me and we can talk offline.

Good luck...

I used to operate my own Insurance Adjusting firm and did that for about 15 years. (I got out of the business because I was tired of dealing with insurance companies) Anyway, it's hard for me to believe that such a devastating loss could end in such an abrupt denial of coverage. If I were you I would look for a good fire cause and origin investigator. You should be able to find one online, in the phone book or even through your insurance company. You can also hire a "Public Adjuster." They are much better than attorney's for this type of thing because they specialize in dealing with insurance companies. They are like "anti-adjusters" and insurance companies hate them. The Public Adjuster specializes in analyzing insurance policies and maximizing payouts.

If you have any other questions, you can PM me.

I would tend to agree with the two insurance folks that have posted, especially if the fire was on the 25th (a holiday none the less) and they already have tried to deny coverage by the 27th plus the results of the investigation have not yet been completed

I am believing the same thing, 6 posts from the OP and this very odd post? And no news about it anywhere? Can you, the OP, provide us with some facts?

Why did you post this really? If my 100k square foot warehouse burned down, there is no way I would be going to a MB site to get answers....

Very odd indeed ....

A good friend of mine who frequents the board suggested that there could be some board members who work in the insurance industry who could advise me. As far as BS goes why in the hell would I make something like this up? God forbid such a tragic event should ever happen to any of you, but maybe it deserves to happen to some of you jerkoffs.

Thumbs down You never answered the question,no news stories were found etcetc hence the suspicion

Everyone (including myself) seemed very concerned and upset for you at the beginning of this thread; heck someone even offered you to PM them and would help you...did you already PM them with all the details. You also never answered any of the specific questions about the location of the fire, the name of the insurance company etc etc , so if you were truly looking for help you had a funny way of showing it.

Sooo where exactly was the fire (City/State),the name of your business and the insurance company?

If in fact someone made up this awful story and there was an unethical alterior motive behind it...what would you suggest we do with a person like that?

BTW are those E63 rims still for sale? Let me guess they burned in the fire too, right???

I'm the insurance guy, and I've heard nothing, if you seriously need some help or direction, let me know.... I've seen it all and I know that if this isn't B.S. then sometimes it's hard to know all the facts... so let me know!

I didn't think you did.

If in fact Dr Max does contact you please make sure he provides the details and location of this fire, as a 100,000 sq ft warehouse burned to the ground and on Christmas Day would make almost every local newspaper and or TV station's evening news, but as I mentioned above I could find nothing. I agree with JRocket there's something more to the story...

I for one find it interesting that his posted location is Colorado Springs and the IPs he posts from don't match up to that location - not even a bordering state.

It's always in the best interest of the insurance company to try and pay out nothing. That's how they make money.

Good luck with it. A few of my friends out of insurance and took massive pay cuts as a result, because their souls were turning black denying coverage to people. Both of them worked in the medical sector of insurance. He told me flat out the policy was do deny a percentage of claims outright, regardless of merit and let the consumer try to get paid. Man.. what a crappy business.

I've seen it first hand myself (being on the consumer end). ONLY after contacting the state insurance commissioner would they even agree to re-assess the claims. This has been going on for months.

Again, best of luck and as stated. Get an attorney on your side, there is too much at stake not too.
