*** VRP Carbon Rotors ***

We have been researching brake upgrades for a while and I think I have found the ultimate setup.

These rotors are made out of Carbon silicon carbide. The wear rate is something like 2mm for every 100,000km!!! It means you can basically purchase 1 set of rotors for your car and keep moving them from vehicle to vehicle as you change cars.

Unlike the normal Carbon Ceramic brakes that you see on some of the OEM cars (SLR, Porsche PCCB, F430, etc) these will not flake or destroy themselves after several heat cycles. The other advantage is that they perform exactly the same when they are at extreme cold and extreme heat.. There is zero fade.

The other advantage is that they are 50% of the weight of the same sized cast iron rotor.

This is not a cheap setup by any stretch of the imagination, but, when you look at the fact that these will outlast several of your vehicles' lifetimes, it is alot less expensive.

Also, the last time I checked a SLR rotor and pad change is somewhere in the $25,000 range.

A replacement setup in this configuration is in the $15,000 range.

Here are some pics... These are a 380mm rotor and notice that it weighs in at 7.6Kg!!!!!

Rotors are nice! Will you have any mod on the SBC to improve it's default capacity?

Vic,

Are you really going to market these?

One size does not fit all, so who will you target with your first batch and what is a realistic price that an item like this can go for?

Carbon Rotors is good but I think we need to make E55 to handle at least like M5 then rotors could be a great idea...May be we need to research CLK 63 BS syspesion components and put them into e55

Thanks everyone!!

I'll take some more pics once I have them in my hands.

------------------------------------------
Dave,

I am identifying the different rotor sizes in the different lines of AMG vehicles and will see which ones are the most common..

Definitely, I will be making a set that go on the SL65 and SLR... Then, the lower models I will have to determine based on how much cross-over there is in rotor sizes.

Pricing is in the $15K ballpark.. That is a very PRELIMINARY price based on QTY 1.. I'll have to wait and see what happens once I put my QTY order in.

Remember, this is F1 braking technology for the street. This will go into a car like our 1000hp SL65.

Exactly!! This is right from F1 race cars and to our street cars! This is the best brake rotor money can buy, period.

The "Basic" kit is rotors & pads..

Pads will be available in 3 levels.. Street, Mild, and full race pads.

The more advanced kit will include calipers.. Calipers are 6piston right up to monster 12piston. I will take some pics of the calipers and post them.

Someone who wants to keep their stock calipers can just replace the pads and rotors and you are off and running.

These brake kits are FULLY customizable.. I can make them for any size & spec wheel ranging right up to a 17" rotor.

How much lighter are these then the 030 Pkg and 65 rotors? Come on send me a test [air to try out first. I promise to test them 0-100-0 and from 200-0 a few times to make sure they work but I will need the vrp ic upgrade to keep the car cool.

vrus what were your thoughts on having it cross drilled or slotted? What made you decide to omit those as options? Cheers.

Im not 100% sure.. I have to confirm the rotor size on the 030 65 rotors first.. Do you know if they are 355mm or what size? then I will get the comparable weights on the carbon setup.

Jude.. Don't worry buddy... I'll hook you up if you want a set.

These don't work like conventional iron rotors.. They do not get cross drilled or slotted... Below is a pic of what it looks like when its mounted..
