Had a scuffle with a Lambo Gallardo

Had a scuffle with a Lambo Gallardo
A friendly one,but still a scuffle nonetheless
My buddy stopped by the house today so we decided to go for a leisurely drive in the E63 before the Nor-easter blows in tonite.We headed down to Montvale NJ to drive through the M-B headquarters&see what AMG's were in the parking lot,a SLK55,a black E63 wagon were all we saw so as were leaving I spot a bright red Gallardo in a parking lot across the street.We pull into to take a look-see and the owner is about to pull out.
Since my passenger was egging me on we follow the lambo out&onto the street.We pull alongside&he ignores us then makes a right onto the Parkway;of course were behind him
I was anticipating him dropping the hammer as soon as he was able to merge&thats exactly what he did,he floored it&that exhaust was W-A-I-L-I-N-G & sounded very sweet indeed.That last thing he was expecting was my E63 on his azz.He slowed down for oncoming traffic...
Traffic opened up&I saw the tell-tale puff of black smoke out his exhaust&I was on it this time in 2nd gear.He pulled slightly ahead for a second&I started reeling him in quickly.Quickly enuff where anthony(a member here)was like : "Yo,slow down your gonna hit him"...So I did.Checked the Racelogic Box&it read 128mph...
We moved over&pretty much assumed we were done&slowed down so the Lambo could maneuver alongside of us.The guy turned out to be totally cool(I thought he was gonna be a tool) and had a poop-eatin grin on his face as we both acknowledged eachother.He beeped at us&gave us another big smile&thumbs up as we went our separate way.
So,I wouldnt claim it a "kill" as it was not really a race,but we did stay on the Gallardo's bumper&I had to back out of the gas before I rear-ended him.Had we been on a open road w no traffic I would have passed him eventually(if the limiter didn't kick in)But by the look on his face,I can say he was very very shocked at what had just happened
PS- I picked up the digi-cam to bring it w us,but the battery was dead so I left it at home.Figures

It reminds me of a similar encounter with a Gallardo, but back then I was driving the E60 M5. I was behind him at the traffic light, as soon as it turned green he went for it, so did I. He immediately jumped a car length ahead (I HATED THE SMG AND THE LACK OF TORQUE) and we stayed about even untill 100 km/h and then I started reeling him in.BTW, I know that you have the best 1/4 time for 63s, how do you launch it? Esp off?

On the street I will launch with ESP on,at the track I have it disabled.With ESP on,it ran consistant 12.2x

Love it. I too have had similar experiences (not saying I was reeling them in) with Lambo's, 911 TT's, Vipers, and C6 Z06's. What amazes me is how well the E does with some of the best performing cars in the world. And, they are four door cars that (we can like it or not) 99% of the people really have no idea what they are.

Yeah my thoughts exactly;the vert has a decent amount of additional weight
Who knows,maybe mr.lambo wasn't giving it 100%.He very easily could have pulled me up top,but we never got to find out as it was just not the right time&location 4 me to bump the rev limiter flat-out

I dunno if I would call the G vert slow, but it is a tick slower than the hard top. They are fun cars , hopefully I will have some heads up runs in the next couple months on the drag strip with a few. Rob any track days coming up 4 you??? We may see your record fall on the 19th of January @ Famoso.

Great story Rob. I would definitely say that the Gallardo is faster than an SL55 AMG...E55 or E63 would be close. I'd give the edge to the newer Gallardo's with the extra 20hp. The older ones would probably be more of a driver's race. An E55 with any type of mods would pull a Gallardo pretty hard (as I've seen on the streets).
Anybody know what the Gallardo's trap at? I never see or hear about them on the tracks.
I wish my pops would let me take out his Lambo...I'd put a lot of questions to rest lol.

Juicee,hopefully you west coast boys will beat me;but none of you are 100% bonestock anymore so it's a different ballgame
Stock Lambo Gallardos trap around 114-116ish.If he had the E-gear and we ran from the dig I have no doubts I would win as they dont 60' particularly well&the typical owner wont wanna toast his $10k clutch to beat a heavy AMG.

we have still have two stock E 63's. Jan 19th likely a better chance than the 18th. You have demolished the records it would be nice to see one of the two stockers break 12.3 at least. The stock Gallardo Spyder at the same track I was at ran a best 12.328 vs my 12.409 and I trapped 1mph higher. If they launch they can beat a 63 but it takes flawless execution.The 63 and Gallardo despite what many Lamborghini owners say is a fabulously close race, and very fun. You should get some guys out on your next Atco day!!
