is this because the SLR is smooth? I am pretty sure the SLR is actually faster?

Why do *you think* the SLR is faster? Have you ridden in/drove either one?

I have driven both and would agree that the DTM is faster but it depends on the track and the driver.

On the North Loop:

7.38* -- 161.63 km/h -- Mercedes SLR 722 GT, *company test driver Chris
7:40 --- 161.22 km/h -- Mercedes Benz CLK DTM AMG, 582 PS/1690 kg, Klaus Ludwig (AutoBild 03/06)
7:40 --- 161.22 km/h -- Mercedes Benz SLR, Klaus Ludwig

Looks like it depends on the driver the track and the day.

Best is look at the CLK Black Series time......

7:45* -- 159.48 km/h -- Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series, 507 PS/1760 kg (*mfr.) according to http://www.caranddriver.com/previews...ck-series.html

5 Seconds and less than 2Km/h on the North Loop.....

Not bad, not bad.....

I was referring to what I thought remember reading about the stats of both the 722 and the DTM... quarter mile, top speed. I could be wrong, thats why I said I thought.

Suspension on the 722 is meant to be unsettled compared to the standard version, according to what roadtesters have said.

Needlessly argumentative. The poster was just stating a viewpoint as you are. Limited seat time as a passenger does not make you an expert.

+1. Saying you've ridden in both and the DTM " felt faster " means absolutly nothing. Especially when you look at the video posted above and the SLR clearly pulls on the DTM.

What exactly did AMG do to make these DTM's special?

AMG E36...
while the CLK DTM is a homologation special for the DTM racing series with any, many, many changes over a CLK...
Mercedes utilise the C class as their DTM base car which utilises a 4 litre naturally aspirated V8...

Personally, I would prefer the SLR. It has the look, the elegance, and the performance of an awsome, high-end sports car.
Where the CLK DTM seems to lack the flare of a super-car.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the shell of the DTM looks too much like a young kid's car who decided to add on a fiberglass kit for some extra attention.

Don't get me wrong, I admire anything that AMG puts their name on (performance wise)
I just feel they could have made it look, I don't know, a little less "Kit-ed", if there is such a word.

...my 2 cents

You might want to add $100k and then you will be in the neighborhood.
Also please watch the video that I posted and then you will see which is faster from a roll in a straight line.

Agreed, it is very agressive. Kind of reminds me of this:

Cool car huh ?? My Dad had an '84 500 SEC that was a grey market car. He and I went to Germany and bought it, then had it shipped back. Anyway, it was an amazing car and this was just about the time AMG was getting well known as a MB aftermerket tuner. So, one thing led to another and I convinced my dad to send it back to Germany and have them modify it. We didn't do the widebody, but it was given a sports suspension, bigger brakes and the motor was rebuilt, upgraded internals and balanced and blueprinted. The thing was very fast and damn did I have fun rolling that thing in high school !!! My pops kept wondering why his mechanic was always telling him he needed new tires - "I just put tires on that thing 4000 miles ago !!!"

So you've ridden in/driven them both, huh? Theres 1 other guy here who agreed with me after having seat time as well. Theres a guy in AZ who has a DTM as well as an Enzo, who stated that on multiple occasions his DTM pulled on his Enzo. So I'll stick by my original statement you can stick with your Youtube video, becuase every video on the internet is 100% legit.

Judging by the specs on the 2 cars alone, it would seem that the SLR would be quicker. The CLK-DTM (ON PAPER) shows a 35hp and 53lb disadvantage.

SLR............ 617hp, 3800lbs
CLK-DTM..... 582hp, 3853lbs

I have a feeling the CLK-DTM is underrated because I know someone that has one and I believe he did outrun an SLR with it.

Whatever you say - becasue the above statement is a reliable source and is 100% verifiable ??? So becasue "some dude in AZ" say it's so....LOL. OK, if that is how you draw conclusions, good luck with that. And btw, I know Bob, the owner.
And for the record all I said was the video clearly showed the SLR pulling...
my first post in this thread was this:

Which is 100% accurate as the video shows and others have confirmed.

i was told by a few technitions that the dtm had to be slower on paper in order not to lose face of their flag ship super car (same as E55/SL55)
