lol. I've never raced in 46degree weather! you can knock off another tenth and add a mph if I ever get so lucky...

The 63 ECU is very different than the 55k, and still remains mainly a mystery. No company has truly unlocked the code completely yet. There could be some torque limiting functions put in place (by Mercedes) to protect the transmission, which may be what's slowing the car's momentum as it's pushed more and more. Also, the TB doesn't seem to open 100% at full throttle. Too many possibilities

Your run 11:08 pm January 18th 2008 here is the weather locally
8:47 PM 44.6 °F / 7.0 °C 14.0 °F / -10.0 °C 29% 30.17 in / 1021.6 hPa 15.0 miles / 24.1 kilometers WNW 3.5 mph / 5.6 km/h / 1.5 m/s - N/A Clear
METAR KCHD 190347Z 30003KT 15SM SKC 07/M10 A3017 RMK LAST
This is the last reported temp from Chandler Az, I am sure it did not warm up between 9 and 11 pm. It is very likely your run occurred at 46.0 degrees or less. Plus rising pressure.. This was GREAT WEATHER
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-14412.html
This run in your 55 was as good as it will ever get @Firebird, the track is over 1200 feet and the sub 50 degree temps and low humidity helped your car make more power.

i totally agree with you juicee and understand where you're getting your numbers from, but i didn't submit the 46* on dragtimes and nobody at the track was reporting sub 50 degree temps. iirc, i was told 52* before i left after getting kicked out (about a half hour after the run).
either way, you're right, it was as good as firebird gets and there's some power left in the car if i can get her to mir and start adding ice to the i/c.

Oh ok, I can see that .. What a rare night. You musta been very dissapointed to have to leave!!
I know in the right conditions you will definately have a shot at moving up this list. Im certain heads up is where you really would shine. I will never forget the guy driving a 4.5 second dragster asking me " hey what the hell does he have in that thing".
Thanks for clearing it up.

Have you and Tom reconciled your lists. I think his lists only names the CAR ONCE not MULTIPLE TIMES. i like the idea of just putting the car ONCE thus lowering the number of cars on the list and raising others higher.

Hope you folks are doing well. The E is kickin' it in Orlando now with the Mom. Running Gainesville tomorrow night with the new GTR. Any E's up for it?
Juicee, thanks for keeping me on the list! Feels good to still be somewhere on there!

I can tell you what he's gonna run with the GTR if it's stock...12.6's or 12.7's, that is what everyone wth stock GTR's are running. I've been at the strip where 3 of them were running and the best they could muster were low 12.7's. That car is a huge disapointment. I've been on Road America with one as well and I'm not sure if it was the driver or the car, but it could not get out of it's own way, the lack of MPH on the straights was really bad. If I owned one of them I would be pretty PO'ed and looking for tuners to make it into the sports car it was hyped up to be.

In a nutshell, the GTRs that run mid 11s have ECUs tweaked to make 520 horsepower while the GTRs that run 12s have ECUs tweaked to make just the advertised 480 horsepower.
Based on what Nissan told them, C&D is expecting production cars to make 520 horsepower but if you're seeing 12s on the strip, then it sounds like cars are shipping with the ECU at the more conservative settings.
FWIW....

It probably was. Either that or the magazine favored the car somehow. It wouldn't really be the first time. Jim stated that he saw these cars personally run at the track at 12.70s and 12.70s is very different than 11.60s

It's not just me, a few other posters on this board from other regions of the country have only seen high 12's out of them at the strip. Poke your nose around on some Nissan boards and 6speed online and you will find similar figures. Who does Nissan think they are fooling?
Great marketing idea, let's ship some souped-up test cars to all the magazines and e-zines to generate some hype and then we will just sell some slow de-tuned ones to the masses. Does Nissan realize they are the laughing stock of the import world right now? This has been the most over-hyped under-delivered car in recent history. While other manufactures are delivering cars that are exceeding the performance numbers of the mags Nissan tosses this garbage at us? I feel sorry for all the all the suckers that paid $20k over MSRP.

let's be honest. you can't go by what you see joe schmuck run at your local drag strip. if that were the case, we could more easily say the same thing about the c6 z06.

I thought the same exact thing the first time I saw a guy lay down 5 back to back to back 12.7's in a GTR, he must not know what he is doing. Then a few weeks later I was at the track and there were 2 different GTR running back to back to back 12.6's and 12'7. 3 different cars with 3 different drivers on two different dates at 2 different tracks making about 20 passes collectivly all within .200 of each other is more tha a cse of a bad driver. If anything their consistancy tells me they are probably good drivers. Say and believe what you want but I saw it with my own eyes and people from other boards including the nissan boards are seeing the same exact times out of stock GTR's.
