Well, My tech and I found a way to install 80mm TB for under $2000.
It will include all OEM AMG parts. 80mm TB, adapter, y-pipe, gasket.
Is that consider cheap? I will know more about it tonite.

So the main question. Is install for under $2000 a good price?
and how much more gain will I get from just changing the thottle body?

I was just told that a adapter is not needed. the opening from TB to the supercharge will be 80mm all the way through. not 80mm to 74mm.
But 80mm to 80mm.

I believe the 80MM TB is good for about 25HP which isn't bad for a bolt on mod!

$2,000 would be a good price. I don't recall the exact number but I spent $2,000-something for a VRP 80 TB. Renntech and Kleemann cost more, $3,495 for Renntech: http://www.renntechmercedes.com/r230_pricelist.pdf.

You are actually heading down a path similar to what Victor did when he created his TB: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/146992-80mm-amg-throttle-body.html. He had some unexpected surprises along the way. It sounds like you're working with a different part so you may not hit the same issues. But don't be surprised if you run into something along the way.

There will be problems.... and they will cost $$$$$. This is a no-win situation.

The Throttle Body is definately a good mod. This mod opens up the bottle neck in these cars a little. And $2k installed is definately a great price

Dude, keep on truckin. $2000 installed is a good deal. I've always said that is max price. i get bashed, but I am right. There are challenges, but those are well known right now. There are also some straight plug and play option, eventhough they have their issues with certain other mods.

the cheapest I have seen all the needed parts is $1200. Install is about 3- 5 hours.

I wasn't aware that RennTech offered an 80mm TB for the E55. Are you sure? The topic is 80mm, not 78mm.

all my parts are directly from the dealer.
there is only about 20 more 80MM TB in stock in Germany. it takes 3-4 day to get mines.

Thanks for clarifying that, Jangy. I was trying to show support for $2,000 being a good price, not to claim that RT had started shipping 80mm TBs.

The 78mm and 80mm TBs are the SAME thing.

AMG Catalogue lists the TB as 80mm, but if you measure the throttle plate it is 78mm..

There are 4 different 80mm TB Part #s (2 from 55 based motors, and 2 from V12TT based motors). They are each a little different in their layout, PCV connection point, and wiring requirements. Depending on which one you choose, different modifications have to be made to make it work.

So, if you measure the opening at the mouth it is 80mm, but there is a 1mm step up just under the throttle plate which makes the opening 79mm at that point.

RT advertises their TB as 78mm because they use the throttle plate diameter to determine TB size (which is actually the correct way of doing it)... I use 80mm to describe the TB because that is what the MB Catalogue describes it as.

Hope this clears up the confusions..

so are you saying that it is actually 78or 79 mm going in to the supercharger. In that case I should have the opening bored out alittle more.

Each side of the TB plate has an 80mm bore. Just under the plate is 79mm, and then it goes back up to 80mm again.

You cannot bore the TB.. It is a completely sealed unit (everything is epoxied together so it cannot be dismantled).. You cannot remove the throttle plate or pivot bar. Only the early 2003 TB were able to be taken apart..

I have no idea what your friend ordered for you... I've TRIED all 4 of the TBs. They can all be made to work but each one has its own set of issues.

The setup I just posted is from an '08 SL55. It is being tested very soon (this week) by the MB Tech to see what he thinks.

Let me know if the part numbers match up with yours. To my knowledge, this is the only one that is nearly a plug and play. The one concern I have with it is that the plastic housing for the electronics is reversed, so it gets hard to try to do any airbox mods.

He is right. I checked my list and it has been updated. At least it seems that we are both using the same TB and I have been told this one is straight plug and play by two people. If you want to wait a week, I'll know for sure.

80mm tb Part number is 1131400104, 1131400912 second number is inlet,tech needs to reverse wire1-4 and 5-6 all done.
you also need gaskits/ y pipe and something else i think cant remeber
