I Drive AMG
Thinking about moving into the E from the R, thoughts please

I currently drive a W221 S550, the wife has the R class. We signed a 27 month lease on the R class which will be over in a few months. The R is kind of the beater in a sense, that it is the only car that our Labrador is allowed into.

I have an opportunity to pick up a friends 05 E55 Wagon with less then 25k on the clock. I will of course have him extend his warranty before i have him sell it to me.

Prior to the R class, the wife drove an B5 S4 Wagon, which she loved, I'm just wondering after reading this forum, if I'm going to kick her out of the E and take it for myself!

what are your thoughts on the E55 Wagon?

Anything I should look out for?

the E that we're looking at has Pano roof, Keyless go, Active ventilated seats, Sat Radio and a few other items.

Also what should i be looking to pay for this?

thank you for your input and help.

R

my though......"KICK ***" you should drive the E55 wagon...
I also owned a B5 S4 wagon stage 3 before.. love it too. but totally different machine. even though I think my S4 is faster/ and handles way better.

E55wagon dont have pano roof. I payed mid 6. w/ 16k mile on it 1 year ago.

I love mine, ultimate in sleeper status with tons of power when you need it. Very roomy inside too.

Did they make pano on the wagon????

You'll love it - it's the ultimate sleeper and it does EVERYTHING well.

Sorry, yes i just checked this morning on my way in the office, and no pano roof, he said it had all the belts and whistles so i assumed it had pano

Any of you wagon or avant owners worry about the aggressive powerband? do any of your wives drive your e? Just wondering about the driveability of this powerful beast for the wifey.

but from what i read, this looks to be a very very fun car to mod and drive!

Audi S4
Where do you live? If you live in a climate that gets snow or a lot of rain, I'd skip the E55 and get the B5 S4 wagon. It's much cheaper than the E55 and much more fuel efficient. If the wife thinks the B5 is too dated, then get the B6 S4 avant. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want my wife driving a 500 horsepower rear-wheel drive car in the rain or snow.

In most states it would be pretty impossible for me to have a wife, but I'll still try to answer your questions.

The car is very civilized if you drive it with a smooth, consistent, light foot. Having power on tap should be safer, as the best way to survive an accident is have the ability (handling / HP) to avoid one. Driving the E55 like a Kia rental car will get you into trouble.
