Mods to SL55 500hp Specs.
Does anybody know the specific engine mods to bring the E55 to SL55 500hp specs. I believe larger throttle body and ECU tune but is it that simple? Don’t know throttle body diameter etc. Any advice appreciated.

You don't need to do anything, E55 already has 500hp. They dyno the same 420whp, which converts to 500bhp. You can get 530-550hp with pulley and ecu tune. Then you can get headers, larger TB and you will be close to 580-590hp. Add cams and you will be over 600hp.

As long as he did not get the crippling dealer ECU tune. Only way to know is get a pre-mod dyno and see if you are around the 415-420rhp. There is also some hidden dealer fix you can look for on your service orders, but I am not sure what it is.

Are you saying a dealer stop they could reprogram back to stock?

I'll bet Vadim will have my car over 600hp with pulley, TB, headers, and tune. I am not planning on cams for now. I usually wait and go all out after the motor is torn up. Then, I'll get into cams and other internals. I figure adding a solid 100 - 120 hp to the wheels for about $6K isn't a bad deal.

You guys are jumping all around. The "dreaded" flash has only been shown to take modded cars down. I know there are those that have "stock" cars that say their cars "died" from it, and I don't want to disrespect them but they are a minority within a very small world as it is.
Just to clear up some of the basic questions. MB makes revisions to its software all the time. They put it into the network and is VIN specific. When you go in for service, they run the VIN to see if any flashes (or other stuff) applies. If it does, they flash (re-write) the ECU file with the one they are given. A perfect tuner would update its tune with each flash, but then you get into expense. MB had been throwing out a new flash about once every six months (for the E55s) for a few years. That has stopped, so I think the intricate modding of the E55s can really get rolling.

So whats with Mercedes and all the motor mags quoting 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque for the E55. Does this equate to 500bhp? MB USA website quotes SL 55 stats at: 510 hp @ 6,100 rpm. Net torque531 lb-ft @ 2,600 - 4,000 rpm. I am sure the SL pumps out more horsies than a E55 stock

Sorry took a while for the penny to drop.
So word is the V8 Kompressors engines are all the same engines and the loss in HP between models can be put down to ( I'm Assuming) different length pipes on the W211 and in the case of the later model SL55s the larger 80mm Throttle Body which would also explain the more aggresssive sound of the SL. So If I get an 80mm throttle body for the E55 do I have to stuff around with the ECU?

The penny hasn't quite landed, but you are close.
MB claims various values for the 55K motored cars, but they ALL put down the same power on a dyno. The E55s have NOT been detuned. The issue is that it is tough to justify $200k for a car that is no faster than the one that is $100k. The SLs just raised their claims to the 530s(?) in '07 and that was due to TB. You can do the same with yours. No tune is NEEDED, but is always a thought.

Exactly. Also, all 63 AMG's have 500hp as well. C63 does not have 450hp, it has 500hp just like E63, S63, CL63.. for the same exact reason... in order to not upset the "high-end" AMG buyers who expect more power than "low-end" AMG powers. All this "detuning" talk is a bunch of marketing BS.
You also see this with other manufacturers. For example, BMW quotes 300hp for 335i, when in fact, it has aprox. 330hp. They underrate the 335i in order to make the M3 more appealing.
