data logging
I know I'm missing some options, but right now I can find mention of:
PC-based solutions
- Autotap http://www.autotap.com/productcat.asp?topLevelid=36
- AutoEnginuity http://www.autoenginuity.com/products.html
- Ease http://www.obd2.com/scantool/scantool.htm
Standalone device options
- Race-Technology DL1 http://www.race-technology.com/data_loggers_8_920.html
- Car Chip http://www.carchip.com/
- Scan Gauge II http://www.scangauge.com/
What else is out there?
I'm especially interested right now in logging IAT in order to determine the current efficacy of the stock I/C cooling system and then the improvements made by replacing the pump and then the Heat Exchanger.
Any comments on any of these? Do they all log with a high enough frequency to be useful?
I think I'm leaning towards scan gauge or autotap ...

I think most people use the Lap top based solutions, and I see AutoEnginuity and Autotap posted here most.

Agree that more info is always good. E55 owners need better diagnostic/logging tools so they can know what's going on with the car. This takes the power out of the dealerships' hands which is always a good thing. I'm still really surprised that no tuner has perfected the ECU tuning for a pulley swap. I would have thought they could crack the code to change fueling parameters to make AFR at around 12.0. I really feel that the pullied guys are leaving A LOT of horsepower on the table. I keep hearing how the pulley causes the ECU to dump fuel so the AFR is between 10.5-11.5. I'm waiting for someone to come out with a solution for that.
I HAVE TRIED DOZENS OF TIMES AND MANY CALLS TO THE COMPANY AND CAN NOT GET AUTOTAP VIA USB TO PC, TO SAMPLE MORE THAN ONCE EVERY FEW SECONDS.
When you are pushing 700hp. Runs only last 10-15 secs tops on highways so you do the math. Not many samples to choose from.
Tried every config on the planet and just gonna hock it on Ebay and go with something else.
Lemme know what you go with. Heard good stuff on Nology. ???

What about the ScanGuage II ... does it record fast enough to be useful? And can you export the data at all from the device to a laptop?

Seems like a pretty slick device and I didn't want the hassle of packing the laptop with me when I go out for a run.

Also heard some great things on Nology
Launch X431 seemed nice til I checked the price, OUCH!!
Anyone else, please please chime in. I wanna purchase one ASAP too.
Thanks again.
Sorry for freaking on the Autotap. Just hate it so much and this was my first chance to tell someone of the nightmare it has been.

The sampling rate on all the OBDII scanners is about the same.. its a limitation of the OBDII spec and the amount of data that it can transfer.
I've been using Autotap for a long time on alot of different cars.. when I got it for the Merc it had some problems.. they released a firmware update to 3.51 to add better support for CAN bus and it improved..
I haven't used Nology or AutoEnginuity so I cant comment on them, but as far as sampling rate, dont expect anything better from them. My $0.02.
This is the one I have been researching for a while.. I am going to try one out..

This one is really popular with the Porsche guys. It seems to almost be a standard they use to compare their runs.. I was going to get one for my 993TT http://www.race-technology.com/ax22_8_938.html

The screens look similar to their website though http://www.ot-2.com/
I misspoke on the availability of the Android app. It was due for release in January but I guess it's still not available. There is a way to make it work with TORQUE for Android though. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/f...6&postcount=15
The Logworks PC based reader is great for analysis and identifying issues and isolating issues by channel.
