how to remove headlights?

I have an 03 e55 with no hids (what a joke) I just got a pair of headlights from an 03 e500 that had hids. How hard is it to swap out my headlights? Any DIY on this? Does the bumper have to come off? Any help would be great!!

The Bumper Has To Come Off To Remove Headlights. There Is A Screw Under The Headlight That Holds It To The Car. Also The Headlight Wont Come Off The Car Unless The Bumper Is Removed.

Don't you also have to have the dealer program the car with Star to utilize the HIDs?

He has an E500, but either way I guess it's the same. To answer your question, the face-lifted headlights are interchangeable with the earlier model years.

Chain it to a large tree and haul *** in reverse?

Hopefully someone will have a how to link for you or a WIS file. But the basics are as follows:

1. Remove center bumper grill and remove the 2 bolts that go from the top of the opening into the bumper support.

2. Remove the retaining clips that "sandwich" the bumper to the fender (these are between the headlights and the front wheel wells). They can be reached be pealing back the front edge of the wheel liner...no need to pull the wheels or the liners.

3. Remove all the small fasteners underneath and in the wheel wells that attach to the bumper.

4. Remove all the fasteners up top by the headlights and radiator support.

5. Make sure you don't damage any of the wiring.

6. I am certainly missing something but it is not that tough to pull one.

No you do not. I have put my HID kit on the car for quite some time now and it's been perfect...just straight plug and play...now if I'm not mistaken, the only reason one would have to replace the whole assembly is if they wanted the bi xenon option no? If you wanted to swap to HID's from regular Halogens (like I did) all you would need to do is swap out the bulbs and add a ballast no?

re-programming is hit or miss. there are some cars that dont need it. If you search the forum, there are many other cars that need to get computer setting changed to xenon=present. You're only options are find a MB dealer to do it for a reasonable price, or find someone with a star diagnostics computer

I have the two cars sitting next to eachother so I can swap them. One car is the 03 E55(non HID) and 03 E500 (factory HID)
