simple exhaust question...

this has probably been answered, but i figured somene can answer it alot quicker than me searching for it...

i don't want to lose my stock exhausts, but i want a little more sound...whats the easiest way to accomplish this?

what resonators or cats do i delete?

anybody have a underbody picture to piont out which parts get deleted.

thanks in advance.

Remove the resonator and secondary cats. Put an x pipe in place of the resonator. The sound is just a little more than stock at lower throttle inputs, but has a nice deep growl when you get on it. Sorry, I don't have any photos to help.

Like Hazy1 said, remove the resonator and secondary cats. There will be no check engine light issues.

Do you lose the low end power doing this because of lack of backpressure? I've heard that you do on some of these exhaust mods.

Thanks.

Car feels as strong as it was before, revs a bit better at higher RPMs actually. I like it a lot, BUT it is still not loud enough for me. Going for VRP long tube headers soon.

I went in the opposite direct than ATKM5. My secondary cats and resonators deleted but I placed the x-pipe where the secondary cats were.

Stock:

Custom:

The reason why I went with this particular setup is I wanted to replace the stock crossover with another crossover (x-pipe) in the same vicinity. There was a reason why AMG put that stock crossover before the secondary cats. I just changed the type of crossover while deleting the secondary cats. I have no idea whether my setup or ATKM5's setup is best. I'm looking to get it dynoed soon to find out what my hp and torque numbers are.

What cutouts are those and do you have a sound clip?

FWIW, You have the best cutout install that I have seen on an E55 that doesn't involve a rear muffler replacement and a ton of custom work to route the "open" exhaust through one set of tips and the "muffled" exhaust through te other set.

So basically you used an X-pipe instead of straight pipes is what I am seeing?

Thanks.

Before. you simply replace them with a straight pipe.

Note:
There will be MINIMAL power gains with the secondary removal. If you want power gains, keep the secondaries and remove the primaries instead.

By removing only the resonator, will help with the sound, but not by much. It will not affect the HP.

But removing the secondary cats and running straight pipes will?
