This just may go down as one of the great mysteries like DB Cooper and the Lindeburgh Baby.
I can tell you that Ken my installer has been in touch with me several times today (he has been calling me) and is just as interested to see the Kompresser and even take her apart and inspect it.
If she sucked a bolt or pebble other hard object, there has to be signs on the top (intake part) that something was bouncing around before ingestion.
We are thinking of turning it into a traveling sideshow.
"See the mystery blower." Kinda like the lobster boy at the local fair.
They think they just found Coopers parachute this week matter of fact. There's hope yet on this.

Jim, you need to post a picture of it on the AMG board and offer to sell the s/c to them for analysis. (Just to defray your costs for the new one ... I would guess that MB wants nothing to do with paying for the new one.)
It would be helpful for AMG to understand if they have an impeller failure issue on the horizon.

FOD the piece should be in the inercooler plenum and mostly intact. If it is not there, someone had to remove it. That piece can not pass through the cooler.

I really dont think it was caused by something being dropped on the rotor of the S/C.. It would have to be a fairly heavy item, fairly long and thin, and even then, I think it would rotate the rotor before a piece got broken off..
If the S/C was dropped, the rotors are within the case so there is no way it would make contact with the floor..
I have a feeling something got stuck in there while the S/C was spinning and snapped the corner of the rotor off. Whenever it happened, someone knew about it because it would of made one hell of a sound, pulled it apart and removed the foreign object and then put it back together like nothing had happened...
If Jim's car was purchased second hand, it could of even been there from the first owner...
I'll say one thing... it's amazing it was even discovered.. if the rotor hadn't of been facing downward like that it would of gone unnoticed...
We are all just glad we caught it and now a new S/C will go in its place..
We'll post all the results just like always... We just wanted to share what we found.

You were just successfull in causing me to spurt some of my bottled water that I was drinking onto my keyboard... Thanks!

Could not agree more. One thing is certain, she wasn't meant to run like that and it was a matter of time before more came off....especially if the tolerances are now way off on her. I really do shudder to think that just 180degrees of turn and noone would have seen it and she would have been sent back to me that way.
Very VERY thankful George spotted this.
Thanks again to all!!!!

Next Mon/Tues....most likely back on dyno Wednesday.
PS. Superchargers from Benz are now only refurbs as they are phasing them out. Running between 3-5K depending on your relationship with your parts guy. Least it better than 7-10K, the old brand new from AMG price.

That 550rwhp is miss leading bro the 550 was uncorrected. My final numbers were 520rwhp. So I gained 12 rwhp from air box, cams and dyno tune. It does feel good I drove it yesterday and it feels nice but it throws CEL codes every 2 seconds.
More Important Jackpro is your car done yet? Was it worth it to do the heads? What was your final HP? I cant wait to get that thing on the track.

Steigemier does re-builds and repairs (plus they do porting...hmmmmmm). They may have a core for a MB... there is a picture of our s/c on their home page, but nothing that says flat out "We have 55k blowers!".
Good luck, I thought I was faced with the same prospect of replacing the s/c after some funky noises. However it "appears" that it is simply gear chatter.

Could hydraulic pressure cause this? Some fluids getting in the SC screws?
A chunk that large suerly could not make it past the valves ... they would be shot to pieces if this were the case. Check the casing of the S/C and the screws themselves any evidence of damage?
It may have shot off and lodged in the casing at a point that cannot be seen... Thats my bet and why no further damage has not occured. Lucky!
Trippin' to see what she makes with a good screw...

Quick update.
Vadim called tonight and said that the car is running stronger with the new blower. Noone is really sure how much stronger. Dyno tomorrow so we'll see how she runs with her.
Keep your fingers crossed for me guys.
