Can the E55 be a daily driver in snowy conditions?

Hi all - I live in Kansas City and am thinking about getting an 03/04 E55 as a daily driver. Does the E55 with snow tires do ok in snowy conditions? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Sure. I live around Buffalo NY and I drive my 2006 E55 with Blizzak snow tires without much problem. The only problem I had was today. We had over 1.5 foot of snow last night and this morning I was too lazy to clear the driveway with the blower. So I back my car out into the deep snow about 20 feet and got stuck. I had to get my car back into the garage and clear the driveway to get finally get out. Other than this morning my E55 has been a champ in the snow and the advance traction system(ESP) keeps the car on the road.

Wouldn't open the garage in snowy weather. I drive my CRV.

Good to know that E will get it done in the snow, if necessary.

I've driven my car in the last 3 winters as a daily driver....no major problems, you just need to take it easy.

I run Dunlop Winter M3s in a 245 size all around in Michigan and Chicago winters.

It's the best RWD car I've ever driven in the snow.

Lots of snow and no problems with Blizzak snow tires.
ESP kicks in a lot, but if you don't drive like an Ahole, it's fine.

I assume the 55 is similar to the 63 if you drive like you are driving in...well... snow. Great as long as you are not trying to climb long, steep driveways or mountain roads. Even then it's ok as long as you get a running start and have a bag or two of cement in the trunk and snowies, although I have yet to resort to the cement. I'm running dunlop sport 3Ds and they work great in snow up to the airdam. And I took it skiing last weekend even though my wife has an r500 4matic, 'cause it's way more fun getting to the mountain in my rig. Lots of winding two lanes and passing zones. Nothing short of a ferrari 430 passes better than one of these beasties.

Absent what color is your 65? I saw a black one on the inbound edens recently and it looked like it had snow. I'd really like to know how the 65s do in the winter with snows, I'm stick and tired of putting my cars away for the winter and even though my E55 & S4 will retain daily duties, it'd be nice if I didn't have to be terrified of taking out the SL.

My E is my daily driver. Sees 20k miles per year. Snow,Rain, you name it.... But the way I keep it, you'd never know... These are not collector cars. And at the rate they depreciate. why not use them?? We had "blizzard" like conditons last week.. I passed a brand new "temp tag" CL63 out there as well.. Drive em'

I think its amazing that this car is fine in the snow, with all that torque and all. God bless AMG. If these guys say that its good in the snow, i strongly suggest that you get one. It will be the happiest day of your life.

I had Pirellis on it and no problems at all ,even in the worst weather (my daily driver no matter how bad the roads are).
Just replaced them with Michelin A/S stock sizes on original rims since blew two of the Sottos on a really nasty pothole in Lake Bluff.
Went with A/S because my lease expires in September and I wanted tires that would serve my needs these next few months (some Winter ,some Summer).
Btw,my car is Black and I do a lot of driving on the Edens.
Best...

Small world! Thanks for the input, I can't imagine too many 65s on snow tires, it's good to know it does well. I just sold the Z06 and 65s are a tremendous value these days - I am cross shopping them and the 997, but after having the 600 I have a soft spot for the biturbo and the retractable top in the summer. My requirement is whatever it is, I am throwing snows/all seasons for the winter on it and driving it year round - sounds like the SL is a worthy candidate.

Take care my friend.

I have Dunlop M3's and have made it through 3 winters in Toledo just fine. This winter I even drove 60 miles round trip in a level 3 snow emergency (had to cover one of our remote hospitals). Only trouble is last week I bent a rim on a VW sized pot hole. At least it was my winter rim.
