Thanks foor the post. I kept reading 4.5 but I knew that it felt faster than that.
Anyone else agree with me that the R8 is nothing more than an overpriced p*ssy magnet? (0-60 is 4.6) They're selling for over 180k right now!!! I'm sorry but I'd much rather take either a 997TT or a 997GT3RS for that price (even cheaper) And normally I love TopGear, but when they tested the R8 vs a 997 CarreraS, I was pissed. Price wise those 2 are nowhere near the same bracket. Sorry to change the thread but I found out what I wanted.

BUMP- Bringing it back from the dead, but I have a Q. So the E55 has 500 HP, and they say the E63 has 507, even though it really has 516, and the E55 has a lot more torque. Why do those 16 extra horses make that much of a difference from a roll? What other factors are involved? Thanks

On the dyno, both E55 and E63 prove that they are both 500 hp cars. Most of the dynos I've seen, the E55 produced 400 to 430 whp and same numbers go for the E63.
The extra torque doesn't only help from a roll, but actually helps from any speed: from 0 mph, from 40 mph, from 60 mph, etc.... From zero mph (and from lower speeds in general), the E55 will always jump on the E63 in a powerful display of torque (given it doesn't lose too much traction of course), but as the E63 climbs up the RPM power band to it's favorite zone, it starts closing the distance
Also, the 7-speed provides slightly better gearing for the 63.

The other factor involved is marketing. When the E55 (W211) was launched,
MB had to justify charging the premium for the $150 - $200K 55s so they simply used power ratings to make sure the top was the top. Rumors flew early on and I personally think the E55 is what brought AMG into the mainstream. It was the first offering from them that blew the then current M5 away and apealled to a more hardcore enthusiast. It also dropped the bar for 500hp to $100K in the luxury class.

Maybe I missed the answer cause I'm tired and a little drunk... But what helps the 63 beat the 55 from a roll? Is it just that it does better at higher RPMs?

I'm really sory to continue to beat this dead horse, But I have been extremely curious for quite some time now... I just didnt want to seem like an idiot. Lol
Yes the motor gets stronger as it gets higher up in the RPM range. Its like the M5 motor, it comes alive after like 4K rpms and pulls like a freight train all the way to redline.
Also remember the 7 speed tranny that is in the E63 also helps with the rolling times as it shifts faster and has a wider range of gears to chose from.

I konw this is a lil off-topic, but anyone konw the true specs of the 06 CLK55? On google i searched and it said 369, but dosent the CLK55 have the SAME engine as the e55? Why are the #'s so diffrent?

E-ZGO 53hp., 1999 E 430 sport, 2004 E 55, 2008 Tahoe LTZ on 24"s

2nd video....12.4 was the quickest time

I ran 12.2 with bad traction, it will take a 11.9x by a 63 to beat me if I can get it to hook up!
You know what would be a good race in a battle of E55 VS E63 is myself vs oldgixxer, or plug in enzom
