Considering used E55
1--Differences between 05 and 06?
2--Reliability issues common to most E55's?
3--Big ticket maintenance issues if not under warranty? (See #2)
4--Considering 05 with 38,000 miles. Dealer asking $49,500--too much? Too many miles for its age? Not fully loaded, but has NAV, Satelitte, Keyless go, premium package (I think). What questions should I be asking the dealer?
5--At what mileage do these cars start to need maintenance--or if treated with care, can they go 100,000 miles without breaking a sweat?
Thanks for any time and input you can provide.
1. The later '05 and '06 have updates suspension components from the CLS.
2. Nothing that is really an issue outside of the usual issues like belt slip, supercharger clutch cirp, etc.
3. No large weak spots but any problem on these cars can be expensive just like an M5. The only thing that worries my is the air suspension as they can be a pain when they fail.
4. I would consider that a fair price but not the deal of the century.
5. They need maintenance throughout their service life and are hard on brake pads, supercharger belts, and rear tires.
I thought that I received a notice that the air suspension was now covered by a 10 year/unlimited mileage warranty. If need be, I'll verify this when my car comes back home.
For the OP, I'm in an '03 with nearly 60k miles and no real issues other than S/C squeal and IC pump that were fixed under warranty. Mine still runs like a champ.
