Toe-links....

Who has them on their cars...What do you think about them...DO they help to put the power down on the beast ???

Anyone else except Renntech has them for E55 ???

I tried the RT ones. They are $1200 and stiffer than the OEm ones, but still bow IF you have lots of power. Don't forget that your car already has toe links, but they are simply weak. As Vadim added power, I could feel the "wiggle" more and more. I'm still torn between how much of it is caused by the diff anfd how much is due to flex in the suspension.
So, I took the stock links in and had a set fabbed out of aircraft grade components. The first prototype has round tubes. If they are not stiff enough, we will try square tubes. They fit the E55 and the SL55 (that is all I tested), but I have no clue about long run liability. I've put 300 miles on mine, but not much "hard" driving. I hope to have some feedback in a month or so.

I have put them in an SL 600 that had Renntech ECUs. That car has a Kleeman LSD and has been lowered by a Kleeman ELM and has Kleeman TS6 wheels on it also. Normal driving was not bad in the car at all, and handling was pretty good, but as soon as you put your foot to the floor, it became a wild animal. The car would waggle so bad that it would pitch violently enought to change lanes at 50 mph with no driver feedback. It actually almost had a for sale sign in it, until I put in the toe links and the camber bushings from Renntech. After a good alignment with the crash bolts in the front end, the car is as stable as a 911. After about 5000 miles, I have no noises, or any other issues with the parts. The only way you know they are there is if I told you or you looked underneath the car, until you drive it. I know the parts are expensive, but I think they are necessary on any heavily modded E, CLS, or SL.

Nick

I also purchased the Renn links for $1250 installed. I am awaiting for my installer to free up some time to get my car in. Once I have them installed, I will post results.

Ditto. I think chiromikey and I have similar set ups (heavy modding) but no wiggle.

from what others have described, it's when the car erratically shifts from side-to-side but is NOT losing traction. apparently it's enough to make some cars very unstable and hard to keep going in a straight line.

I've had Renntech toe-links for about half year now.
I'm very satisfied with this setup and it does put power to the ground
alot better than the stock.
I believe you could change the camber setting with this kit.
it fixed my negative camber setting from lowering

you know, my car has that wiggle, waggle!!! Its scary actually. Tire pressures seem to help a bit, but the car wants to change lanes under hard acceleration. Guess what, my car has the renntech toe links on it! I dunno, maybe need to get the alignment done to different spec than factory

Note: just used that "amazing search button" and realized that the wiggle, waggle is probably attributed to the 295's on the back of my car. Guess I need to go down to 285's on rear.

Guys.... be clear on the wiggle. LOL. There are two things that go on with our cars. One is that the toe shifts as the power is planted. If you have odd offsets and wide tires, this can literally cause a rub. The rubbing occurs between the sidewall (inner side) and the rear subframe on the car. This "wiggle" is not just scary, but actually dangerous, especially if you run a tire with a softer sidewall (i.e PS2s). The fix for that is NOT the RennTech toe links, but rather to get the correct offset and tires.
Aside from the actual rubbing, which does cause very noticable "wiggles", there are the more normal ones that are not quite as obvious. It is something that I have always felt in my german cars, but was never a deal until I ended up with this much power. From what I gather, the rear diff is sending power as I punch it. When one wheel slightly slips, the diff slides the power to the other wheel. When that wheel slightle slips, the diff comes back. I believe that this back and forth is what we feel. I also believe that the feeling is exageratted if you run wide tires on narrower rims (since it allows the tires more lateral freedom). I used to be able to tease it out in my old M3 (dunno why) and a quaife ended that.
At any rate, the question becomes, "why worry about the little wiggle?". Well, the reason I want to bolster the rear end is that I want to add traction to my newly found power. When that happens, the suspension is really going to be put to the test (and my tranny). My plan is to build up the suspension and let the tranny blow when it does. One thing that everyone with major mods shoud always do is keep an eye on the toe link bushings (including RennTech ones). They take the brunt of the load and may shred after some time. If that happens and you do not notice it, you may drop the arm while rolling and the next thing you know a rear wheel is turned sideways and your car is wrecked. be careful with that added power, fellas.

suppose you have wiggle in sl not just e class and the offset and tires are same as stock? i think the toe links and a lsd may be the answer, no?
