audio upgrade
time to upgrade my audio, will keep my stock Head unit with HK... does anyone recommend a shop in the bay area or close to Sf for install? thinking about mb quart q or premier series components for front and rears and a 10" JL sub plus two alpine pdx amps or 1 jl audio 500/1 ...

i am thinking of doing the same but starting with the sub then moving forwards. i have been doing some research and chatting with a bit of an audiofile and he suggested taking a look at elemental designs. all made in US and specs look pretty good. he has it in his GTi and sounded off the hook. also has their home audio sub and dang. I am thinking of getting them to make me a ring to bolt up to where the factory sub goes - using their free air sub which again sounds pretty kick ***. also, they make good amps.
anyone have any experience?

i didnt realize how lacking the audio is in the car until this weekend. for the past month i been driving my Z06 with mb quarts q series components for the doors and coaxials for the rear fill, and a jl 10" sub ... powered by alpine pdx amps ...these amps have a small fotprint so they work great with the z.....
just how many speakers do guys replace on these? two components for fronts? two components or coaxials for the rears? and subs for back? isnt there a front center and what do you do with that? so if anyone can chime in on how many speakers they replaced would be great...
lastly can you get tight base with the sub in the trunk firing towards the back ?

I have owned my car for about 3 months now. The audio system is the most disappointing part of the car, in my opinion. I came out of 745i and that thing had a real system in it. The sound out of my e55 is weak.

I simply decided to replace front tweeters with Dynaudio MD100 I already had in another car: don't know today, but a few years ago they were perhaps one of best and wider range capable tweeters. (The MD100 is a 28mm soft-dome tweeter Frequency response: 2,500Hz - 25kHz; 91 dB sens. 20 - 150 watts continuous)
I had to mod a bit the back side of plastic cover because magnet's diameter is as huge as nearly 2" .. but at last everything's ok and stealthy.
sounds great. really big difference.
Unfortunately now I perceive door speakers and maybe the overall power of the system as feeble ..
still have 2 very fine 8" macrom that were really great and would like to install rear but don't know if they would fit .

JL is doing my whole system, I will post what they are installing, they have a E55 in-house with the Logics system, so they know what I need. (I am keeping my NAV/Logics headunit)

did any one use the JL clean sweep device when adding amps and speakers to the stock HU? or is it not really needed.

2 10's in a JL factory box. JL10W3's are good.

I'm putting a 500 Watt amp on to them.
I did this in MY C32, It was portable, it just had a cover over the box.
THis is what JL sent me for my M3, always protable..now I gotta do it all over again..sheesh..

sad .. maybe our dsp had also something good or car-specific programmed in it ..
concerning your new system:
1- Signal Summing Cleansweep : what is it ?
2- SUB- CS21ORG-W1v2 woofer: where will you place this box, and ..why? I mean, not enough result from simply pumping our stock subwoofer with new A1400 amp ...or, neither by replacing it ?
3- 4 XR speakers: you will replace oem doors' woofers and tweeters, too?
.. if yes, you'll keep rear door tweeter in that unhappy location? ..and what about other stock surround speakers?
4- AMPs: now we have a 420w (rms?) amp integrated in the DSp module. supposing about 300w are for speakers and the remaining for the sub ... your new 300w A4300 amp will replace it and therefore feed surrounds too?
don't know if my ideal came out or not but I would simply like:
a- more power for door speakers and Sub (more or less the same dedicated power as your are planning: 300w for door speakers and maybe the same for Sub)
b- replace door speakers (obviously excluding my Dynaudios) and sub only if they are really inadequate
thanks, Marco

Wow man, first off I am not an audio expert, Im just a guy who is lucky enough to be kinda famous and get free stuff from JL for the past 6 years..
So from what I know..
If you try to run power from the stock benz heads with nav and this is across the board, you will have audio problems, in the C32 the guys on this forum finally figured out, that you could take a mic out of the rear view mirror.(Listed 10 in the diagram, I will disconnect mine anyway) Its the internal cabin ambient whatever. This was before cleansweap. ( I think the signal summing thing might be the adapter for the Merc)
Now that we have cleansweap we can run lots of power, before the system would just get wacky as all hell, going up and down trying to adjust itself.
Now as far as the speakers, yes run the stock tweaters..they are fine.
As for the box, I picked the 10's because of size and weight. If you want to go lighter you can make a custom fibergalss box.
Usually what I will do is make a braket that holds it in place and a mock cover so it looks custom, like in my c32. SO I can take it out easy for racing, or when I sell the car.
As far as AMPS, the stock amps will be disconected and I will run the JLS to the speakers.
