supercharger belt slippage??

How would I know if my supercharger belt is slipping? I have never had it replaced and the car has 26K on the odometer. I asked the dealership how much to have it replaced and they told me $175. I wanted to be sure that it was actually slipping and would need replaced before I had it done.

I think you would notice a power loss and motor noise.
26K you should be fine to 40 at least..

so, it is pretty obvious if the belt begins to slip. I know some guys on here replace the belt as often as their oil.

It's also a real easy do-it-yourself job. Less than 10 minutes.

All you need is the belt ($30 +/- from a decent auto parts store) and a 17mm box end wrench.

Just remove the belt cover, fit the box end wrench over the tensioner socket, rotate it counter-clockwise, slip off the old belt, slip on the new belt, allow the tensioner to re-engage, remove the wrench, replace the cover.

That is out and out rape. Just cannot believe what some of these dealers charge. I am serious, this is literally THEE easiest thing to change on the car. A 17mm socket wrench and 60 seconds is all it takes. 30 secs if you've done it before.

Last time I checked at the dealer, the belt was only $30-40 and it takes minutes to replace so $175 is nuts!!!!!!!!

Jim,

I would like to have a spare with me at all times. Do you have the OEM part # for a stock belt.

$175 is waaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I plan on getting the part this weekend and tackling the replacement job myself.

I'd be happy to show you how to take the belt off, but I don't mess with much else (maybe oil). The belt is too simple not to change out from time to time. I'll try to post some pics, since that is much easier.

I'm thinking about going with a slightly shorter one, so that it is a bit tighter. Right now, I am barely using any of the play in the tensioner and it slips really bad. Not just when I punch it, but even when I lift off.

Jangy, don't you have a pulley kit? If so, what size of belt do you use and made by which co.? I ask b/c I have a Kleeman pulley and would like to change my belt this weekend. Thanks ahead for any response.

Reviving this threat.
I have, what I think, is a belt slip on a Supercharger. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
After a hard acceleration, when I lift off the acceleration pedal car jerks once. It doesn't happen every time, and at times it happens with regular acceleration.
Both belts have been replaced and have less than 1k miles on them.
I'm new to M113K platform.
What could it be?
Thank you in advance.

If you are getting on it and let off just as the car is shifting you can have that jerking issue. It can feel like a stumble.

I'll try to keep my eye on the techometer a bit closer and see if that's where jerking happens.

Thanks for your input.

Grab a belt-wrap

Man, for those dollars you can have yourself a belt AND a belt-wrap kit. The belt-wrap will take you from 45% up to 75% purchase on the supercharger pulley which will allow far less slippage and maintain boost. You will notice an instant improvement with a tighter and more responsive acceleration. With so much torque produced at the supercharger I don't think most people are aware how much belt slippage actually occurs when you plant your foot...

Just noticed the dates... oops!
I still suggest the belt-wrap though, works a treat.
