New Renntech ELM question

I had read that the latest Renntech lowering module no longer requires splicing, but is a plug and play module. Can anyone confirm this? Or is there a little more involved than plugging in a connector?

Thanks in advance

Thanks.

Hmmm... found the news release. Not only PnP but also you could now adjust each wheel independently....

Now, I need to find a good deal one Any tips?

its not really plug and play. You need to remove pins and replace them. So its still some work, but no cutting or splicing.

Are any special tools required to remove the pins without butchering them?

nope, just something with a fine point. My wife had a craft tool or something I stole to do it. Looked like an exacto with a metal pointy tip on it.

I installed another one on a friends car last week. Hardest part is getting the connector off the suspension module.

Can anyone using the V2 renntech elm kindly take the installed pics? I just want to see how it looks and and how many wires need to be connected, etc.

That is simply not possible, since the rear only has one sensor and it is in the center. What you can do is play with each front to balance out the rear, but this is really only a solution for stand-still shows, etc. To drive like that would RUIN the performance.

Pics won't tell you much. The difference (wiring, not modules) is only that you are now modifying the harnesses vs splicing the wires. This can also be done with the older module, but you'd have to buy a little harness bridge to connect the pins (I suppose you could also just share pin slots or "rig" it but that really isn't the object. It took me a while, but I was finally ably to find the generic harnesses and was able to build a piggy back setup. You basically unplug the airmatic, plug the modified harness into the slot and plug the original harness into the back of the modified harness. It worked, but was neither pretty nor long enough. I stripped it back off and am changing it so I can move the module to the shelf below my seat.

The interesting thing with the module will be the remote, since they did not opt for the knobs.

Not sure whether this should answer it....

If I read the instruction manual (http://www.renntechmercedes.com/lm_i...ions/mb_lm.pdf). It seems that up W211 up to 4/06 build date has 4 sensors vs. 3 sensors on 5/06+ build date

You're right, reading the instruction, it seems that you basically just move the wire... so instead of naked wire-to-wire connection, it would just use an adapter that has to be connected manually? Why can't R/T create a true PnP?

Just glanced through the directions. Says to disconnect the battery. I am under the impression that when you do that, you need to have a Star Diagnostic system to reconfigure a few things that lose their memory without power supplied. Is that correct or is it no big deal if you disconnect the battery?

Also, do you connect both the battery in the trunk and the supplemental battery in the engine compartment, or just the one in the trunk?

i've disconnected my battery many times without any problems. Sometimes the one touch open switches stop working. Just have to reset them.

This is only for the ABC 4wire system. Airmatic still only has one rear control knob.

Install is very very easy, I will take a few pictures next week when we do another install, for you W211 guys all it requires is the removal of 3 wires from the harness.

Thanks for clarification...

Now.... the question is:
Is it worth additional $300 (for my case) to get the new module vs. the old module?

I will have my installer place either module w/ extended harness under cup holder for easy access.

Any difference between the old and the new module other than optional remote control and installation effort?

BTW, is the remote control available already? If so, is it included in the $1395 kit price?

Nice, anyone know where to get a deal on this. I think I've heard that wholesale is around $8-900 bucks for the RENNtech ELM without install. True or no?

I have the older model ELM on my 06 S65. I wonder if I would be able to put in the new one without complication from the install of the old one. On the old one, I have to set the front at different settings, to get a uniform appearance, but since the rear have only one knob, the right and left rear are a bit off, and there is no way to correct it. I guess I will wait and see.

Your factory Airmatic settings might be off if you can't get it straight.
Or you need to set the car up on a perfectly flat ground.
Or just set it at whatever seems to work best..
