Tire stuff....

As a bit of a change from the usual hum-drum; Does anyone know which is the best riding/most comfy tire for our cars? Don't want to give up a lot of performance but as a daily driver the E is seeing less that spirited 'carving'. Have PS2's at 255/40 and 275/35 on the stock rims now and they are noticeably stiffer than the conti 2's. Any word on the Pole positions, F1 GSD3's or the Proxes T1R. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....

I like F1 GSD3.... but some members here said it would be very loud after <50% tread remaining.... so far I have put 5000+ miles and they're still quiet.

I'm gonna try T1R next....

I also run with PS2's and I agree that the ride is noticeably stiffer than it was on Conti's, but I think that is the price you pay for responsive handling.

There is always a tradeoff somewhere. I have head good things about the T1R, but I think it has a more limited tread life than PS2s or Contis. I think SleeperX and/or MIG19Rocket ran on T1R's. PM them.

I think the T1R is the best tire for the money.

Great wet/dry performance on the street, 1.7s at the strip.

The other issue w/ the PS2's is that regardless of tire pressure when I get on it hard the rear squirms!!! I absolutely hate that because in a straight line it gives the impression that the rear is about to break lose/come around. Very strange that such a tire would do this. Passing at high speeds has become quite an adventure. I need to get rid of these stupid tires.....

Did you buy the XL (extra load) version for the rear? What tire pressures are you running? I know that the E63 calls for much higher tire pressure than the E55, but I don't know what the correct amount would be for the PS2's on the E63.

I have a new set of Toyo T1-R and I love them, quiet and grippy.
Toyos do get noisy and the end of thier life-span, but it's like that with any tire.

They are the Mercedes spec 275/35/18. Pretty sure they are XL. Running38 all around. Tried 40 like the conti 2 (as stock, but was too rough). Went down to 35 but the rears squirmed even more. Have been playing with the pressures for 7K miles now and it still sucks.....
