[QUOTE=damascusE55AMG;2719071]Hello-
I'm a long time BMWCCA member and have mostly been a BMW driver. I have owned several M3's and am currently driving a 2003 540i 6-speed 'M-Sport'.
Most of what you need is STOCK in the E55 (at least in Europe) Leather seats, Xenon, so if you are looking for a used one , the most important thing is the history of the car and guarantee. I think you could live with any color if the car is ok.
AUtoZeitung once tested this car and they said they punished it for 100000km and the car was flawless:

(the pdf file is downloadable for free, you just have to register for free)
The main difference to your 540i are:
-Fuel consumption. With the 540i you can see even 6.7l/km if you drive 90km/h and really save the gas, with the E55 I have never seen a value below 9.8 and the average is 15.5 even with reasonable driving.
-You have a MANUAL BMW. An automatic, especially MB automatic is very different. However, if you are not an automatic man, dont buy the E55. For me it was the thing I wanted. With the E39 M5 I sometimes had really hard times getting the car off the line due to "Bunny Jumping". The E55 is a 1/4 mile monster, you can even keep up with 911 Turbos, but it is a heavy and numb track car compared to the BMW's with excellent road feel. It feels like tyou are turning a tanker boat around a corner. Even a HONDA has better feel of what the wheels are doing. But when you floor this monster it goes and you get easy consistant launches.
-This is a very reliable car, but faults are expensive, take a guarantee. This is actually the MAIN reason I didnt go for the E60 M5 after the E39 and bought the W211 E55, The M5's just seem to fall to pieces.
If you agree with the following the change from BMW to MB is easy and you will love your car.

BMW nut looking to move to an E55
got it... last 'paint' question: did MB offer any paint colors specific to the E55 AMG that were not made available to the rest of the E-class line?
i'm also trying to figure out the interior 'wood' colors that were offered. I like the darker wood... would you tell me what the exterior paint color and the name of the wood interior trim on this vehicle? black birds eye maple? i'm diggin it!
