BMW nut looking to move to an E55
Question help a BMW nut move to an E55 AMG?

Hello-

I'm a long time BMWCCA member and have mostly been a BMW driver. I have owned several M3's and am currently driving a 2003 540i 6-speed 'M-Sport'.

A friend of mine owned an E55 AMG. I instantly became addicted to the high torque monster! He let me drive it down the 1/4 mile track a few times. Incredible. I have to have one.

I have searched this forum without much luck. I'm interested in finding all of the colors and color codes for the 2003-2006 E55 AMG production run. There seems to be an unusual number of silver cars offered for sale right now. i'm attracted to darker colors and see that there are quite a few flavors of 'black'. interior color combinations seem to have great variety as well. and on top of color choices, the E55's were available with a great number of options.

i'm hoping that a member here may post a link or offer some direction for a complete list of colors/codes, interior colors/codes, and options/codes (+MSRP pricing on options?).

i found the information below posted on an E55 for sale. it seems like it has a ton of options and the codes are listed (yes?). this is basically what i'm looking for.

thanks in advance. i can't wait to join you.

Funny ... this is my first Benz after 4 BM's ... BM's are great, drivers car kinda btwn Merc and Porsche I would say... love em...

Fell in love with FI though and the torque of the 55K motor ... fell more in love with the motor than the car TBH. The cabin of a benz is not the quality of old either. Got all the gizmo's but the solid clunk from previous E classes is absent. BM lost me with the latest styling otherswise I'd probably be in an M5. M5/6 with FI ... hmmm.

So styling & 55K is what swung me round.

Next? Not sure GT-R, Evoms/Protomotive 996, 997TT, F430 ?

Got another family car so no need for a sedan now.... once this torque bites its v tough to let go though....

Wierd it says Standard Radio most cars I have seen have teh COMMAND unit ... think that is a must.

COMMAND & navi - must (if even just for resale)
Parktronic - must
sunroof - must
keyless go - must
Bi xenons - must
030 package - awesome if you can get it
panoramic roof - nice but not necesary
harmon kardon - you can do better for the money
active seats - nice but not essential
rear TV - after market is better
Power rear shade and boot closer nice if u got kids.

Think the rest of the options are at best convenient but no show stopper if present or not.

I came from similiar background, M3(E36), 540i6(E39), and M5(E39). You'll looove insane torque. I ended up silver but wish I had stayed with Techtite Gray. Investigate the look of Pano roof, thats the other option I wish I had.

Couldn't agree more. BMW styling forced me to end 19 consecutive years of BMW M car ownership (all flavors from E30 M3 to 850CSi). In my opinion, the 55K is the perfect car - nice styling, nice size, luxury, and a great engine. You won't regret making the change.

It's a "performance package" consisting of larger brakes, limited slip differential, higher mph limit (186) in the ECU, and the nicer two-piece forged AMG rims. Only problem for you is that I do not believe a "030" package was ever offered on USA spec W211 E55s. If anyone knows otherwise and can provide a VIN of the car to prove it, I'd love to hear about it (so part number can be looked up).

2006 E55 Black on Black
I just moved from 04 m3 to a 06 E55. I can't stand the look of the new BMW's. The high rev concept/ low torque BMW has gone is not my favourite. The torque of the E55 is tons of fun.

Do you guys notice that your spirited top speed is less because of the torque feel/feedback? I doubt I've gone over 125 in E55, where I want to recall I took the less torquey M's higher. Maybe it's just scary how fast it gets up there, that I let off.

M's have superior high speed stability due to suspension set up and rear diffusers. However, new AMGs like C63 and CL63 have addressed this weakness.

I was questioning more the Torque tricking the mind(straightline/fwy), when I step on it and FEEL like I'm going 137.5, I look down and 'only' going 125. While in my E39M5, it felt like 125 when actually going 137.5 (again, torque-wise). I pushed the M5 to the top speed limiter, where I back off the 55 b/c of torque-feel around 125. The sprintbooster probably doesn't help. Not that I need another 127mph(decelerating) ticket.

Welcome!

You can check this location for vehicle specs for the prior years:

http://www.mbusa.com/models/class-ov...e=e_class_main

From here select Features& Specs | 16 Year Model Overview

Unfortunately they do not list the colors for the older models.

For model year 2005 the E class colors were as below. I think the 2006 colors were the mostly the same, maybe that is when MB switched to Barolo Red and Iridium Silver as examples of some slight changes.

040 Black is a non metallic black
185 Jade Black metallic (a green-black)
189 Black Opal metallic (a blueish-green black)
197 Obsidian Black metallic (like Cosmos black in BMW speak)
353 Platinum Blue metallic (light blueish grey)
359 Capri Blue metallic (very dark, purplish in certain light)
368 Flint Grey metallic (medium grey)
567 Bordeaux Red metallic( burgandy, replaced today by Barolo red)
693 Desert Silver metallic (light tan )
723 Peweter Silve rmetallic (slightly darker silver, looks a little tan/brown in certain light)
744 Brilliant Silver metallic (classic MB, replaced today by Iridium silver)
747 Granite Grey metallic (med grey, lighter than flint grey)
816 Everest Green metallic (dark green)
904 Midnight blue, non metallic (beautiful navy blue, not offered anymore)
960 Alabaster White - non metallic (basic white, mikly)
029 designo Silver metallic (special order champagne color)
033 design Mocha Black metallic - (special order black with a brown tint - very nice)
041 designo Graphite metallic (special order very dark grey - very nice too)

E55 interiors were offered in Charcoal, Charcoal/Dark Blue and Charcoal/ Merlot Red

Wood offerings were Burl Walnut and Black Birds Eye Maple

The designo paints came with special interiors as well: Silver had a Stone interior, Mocha Black had a Sand interior and Graphite had a Graphite interior. All of the designo packages came with Brown Poplar wood.

BMW nut looking to move to an E55
amg07: thanks for the link and information. especially helpful is your description of each color... excellent. i'm looking for a few factory brochures for furhter information. it looks like, as you noted, there were some slight changes to color selection from year-to-year. i remember seeing 2003 cars offered with a tectite (sp?) color that looks nice.

i also went to edmunds.com and went through each model year for their colors listed. i don't see it spelled out, but did MB restrict certain colors to the E55 cars (and not available for the 'regular' E class)?

thanks again.

I notice the opposite, the car is faster to speed and much easier to drive fast. I came from 2 M5's, 1 750i and assorted other 3 series etc.

Tectite Grey was offered on the E and maybe the S and CL around that time - I'm not totally sure.

The designo colors are much more rare as that paint and interior option was about $6-7K I think.

Platinum Blue was introduced on the E class, but not exclusive to the E55, i.e. the whole E lineup offered that color.

feeling is subjective..

my c32 feels faster than my E55

why..

stiffer suspension, lower center of gravity and the kick down of power is more raw..

but obviously the E55 can cover ground faster and does not feel like it.

I have never driven over 125 on my E55 since I had 3 tickets in 2006.

Even if I wanted to hit 125.. its hard to find a location safe enough to do it. Except trolling around 2am looking for trouble on the empty so cal freeways.

Cubanite metallic is the European name for Pewter Silver Metallic in the US, but it is not a designo color. The lighting in the photos seems make it appear more gold than Pewter really is.

Benz often borrows from Mother Nature for their color names for the world market - some get adpoted here in the US and some not.

Example of Euro names - Cubanite, Tansanite, Obsidian, Indium, Perlite, Irridium, Calcite, etc. Some of these names come to the US as is, Obsidium, Irridium, and then some get changed probably for marketing reasons, for example Calcite White is called Arctic White in the US.

excellent... so if 'Cubanite' is the same as our 'Pewter' - it looks like i'm into the Pewter color. it looks great (although i agree it looks a bit gold here). thank you very much for the information.

You can search this forum for Pewter or Cubanite and find some pictures in different lighting conditions.

Or search the picture thread sticky at the top of the forum.

I am another BMW CCA member (former chapter president). I have a 2003 330i ZHP and have just started the search for an E55 or E63 to replace the ZHP. My father had a C32 and now has a C55 I love the C55! I will have an E55/63 or C55 within the next 12 months.

I've had E39 M5 and W211 E55 on track, both fun on a big track like Big Willow. Feel the torque on the E55. Good luck either way.
