We can only hope that the creativity/innovation that marks our species will come up with solutions to the future environmental regulations. I wonder, we'll probably see a reduction in weight and power, but what if Mercedes or BMW are ok with taking the penalty hit on one or two models that break the 130kg limit and just pass it on the consumer. Surely there would still be a market?!

This is a crying shame. Once again, the greenie/ecomaniac/liberals/dems are trying to ruin everybody else's lives just to reap even more undeserved tax income. All based on the most riduculous yet most seriously taken political scam in history.

This is very depressing
Why can't they reduce power for all other models except of a couple of AMGs?? Like someone said, they should be able to afford the hit on a few models as long as 90% of all their other models pass emissions

Well, the global warming thing will only last as long as the earth temp does not decrease, because it is NOT increasing since the 30s.
Right now solar activity may very well be going into a low period. I wonder how Europe will like freezing their a$$'s off?
Europe is big on taxing based on these issues. Hope it does not come here, and if this damn farce of the US having to pay a world tax is agreed to by any administration I think they will need to be ousted.

If the hearth doesnt start cooling, we will see more laws rules and regulations untill the earth starts naturally (not man made) cooling

What anoys me is the rhetoric, "Save the Planet".. DMAFF, the earth gives a crap. Been through Ice Age, meteors , dinosaurs etc etc, it wll be here supporting life long after we are gone. The slogan should be "Save your sorry ar$e!!"
The problem with the planet is too many people... we will be starving (erm actually many already are) long before the environment implodes...
Combined with lower infant mortality, longer life expectency, does not come without consequences...
On another tack... China's CO2 production app been underestimated by 13% or something. This difference is approximately the CO2 produced by the entire airline industry in a year... go China!
If they want to get CO2 down they got to get the big spenders on board.
This is govt's tax haven ... popular and easy to implement.

I agree. I don’t believe however that this negative hype about being green will make decent cars extinct. Instead you will have for example an AMG V8 that will shut off 4 cylinders similar to the new HEMI along with other new enviro technology. Id be more afraid of the Government trying to reduce the road toll by pulling the rug from under us but with high luxury car taxes even that probably wont happen until there is some new bs tax that can replace it.

I cannot believe regenerative braking has not been used more as with the suspension motion - both could be used to boost via secondary electric motor on pull away etc...
Shut off on sandstill is another no brainer....
Major developments are being made in capacitors - which if it continues at current pace will make batteries obsolete in cars...
If you look at this car makers have been a little lazy no..?
Problem comes from racing rules too if you ask me... in all racing they should abandon half their rules and say you got X amount of fuel to complete the race... Do it as efficiently as you can. The most efficient car will run the longest at max power. The year after cut it 10% and so on... thats the only way we will get greener cars not via taxes.
The worst thing F1 can do is go ahead with the 5year engine freeze being implemented soon... it is without doubt going to kill F1, and is plain stupid.

and to think all this because someone proposed a THEORY that global warming is man made. Such a shame.
Fire and Ice, a great read
