Escondido MB call. $429 out of the door to replace the battery.Do you know any where in So.Cali that could replace it for cheaper?
What kind of battery do they put on the E55?

I owned the E46 M3 and the "optima" works just fine for me.

I called MB roadside assistance because my battery went dead while sitting in my garage after three days while I was away on a business trip. I knew mine was on the way out (obviously), so we got to talking about replacing mine. He said the AMG's get the black battery, but he has been putting the white batteries in with no problems. The black battery puts out 90 amps, and the white battery puts out 95 amps. The difference is, the black battery can sustain that amperage for a longer period of time.

Long story short, MB roadside assistance came to my house and replaced the main battery with a white one for $137.99.

Check on warranty coverage. MB has replaced batteries under warranty. My car received two new batteries, under warranty, at it's most recent service.

Yeah, I forgot to add the black battery was $279.99. So maybe that is with an hour of labor or something stealership ridiculous.

Two hours labor,disposal fee and tax according to the service advisor.
I call the local Autozone they told me $89.99 before tax with free installation (should take about 10-15 mins)

The warranty expired on 03-14-08 ahhhhhhhh and the extended warranty doesn't cover the battery.

if you can install it (you should) otherwise don't complain about high prices dealerships charge you

they have it for E63 too..

they could not find the 5.4L komnpressor engine.. its listed as 5.5L..

but all the E class have the same battery size.
