2008 M3 vs 2004 E55???
My friend ordered the new M3 coupe and he swears that hes gonna smoke me which I of course disagreed with him. The the E55 has 55 hp more and tons of more torque more. I would think the power the E has makes up for the less weight the M3 has. Opinion's ????

It won't even be close. E55 is an M5 competitor, it will destroy the lowly M3 at any speed. Is your friend claiming that his lowly M3 is as fast as M5 now? Keep in mind that E55 actually has 500hp, it is underrated from factory.

I really don't think an M3 is "lowly" at all,it's a awesome car....
If you were to start in "C" mode you will still have no problems whatsoever taking his M3 out in a straightline.
Ask him if he wants to run an E63 instead since they are alot slower then the E55

wtf is C mode? What's S mode? What's M mode? I dont even know.. I should break open the manual...

C for Comfort Mode: starts off in 2nd gear and shifts earlier for smoother shifting
S for Sport Mode: starts off in 1st gear and shifts further down in the RPM band
M is Manual: You choose when it shifts, it should bounce off the rev limiter if you hit the red line (i know it does in the 63's, can someone clarify if it upshifts on redline)
Keep in mind the computer learns your shifting habits and adjusts the shift points of C and S mode.

Caranddriver:
E55
0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, 0 to 100 in 9.9, 0 to 150 in 24.5, and the quarter in 12.5 seconds at 116 mph.
M3
4.3, 9.8, 24.3 12.8@113 respectively
Remember that E55 does these figures every time (automtic), in a M3 (manual) this is with optimal gear change (which atleast in my case is often not optimal)

You should know these things, bad Godfather
C for Comfort Mode: starts off in 2nd gear and shifts earlier for smoother shifting
S for Sport Mode: starts off in 1st gear and shifts further down in the RPM band
M is Manual: You choose when it shifts, it should bounce off the rev limiter if you hit the red line (i know it does in the 63's, can someone clarify if it upshifts on redline)

And there is also the debate about what chassis adjustment to have. Some say C mode, but I get best results with Sport 1. However I have no drag experiences like many of those who suggest c mode...

I drove the new M3 last week, and let me tell you that it has ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE against any E55. It is not remotely as fast as some of the reviewers would have you think and with the 6-speed you have to be PERFECT with shifts, not to mention that the gearbox itself is almost incompatible with that 8200rpm redline.
Put money on the race, your buddy doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell.

I will say that the little thing is absolutely ridiculous in the twisties, but not surprisingly it is really gutless outside of the powerband.
