How long will 2004 E55 re-sell at MSRP?

I am new to this Board and have been watching it for a while. You guys are great about sharing info. I have long been a BMW Fan and have owned several. Since my Wife can't drive a stick I bought a 540i vs. an M5, for the FEW times I have to borrow the family truckster for fishing expeditions. Given this I was able to get a #1 spot for a new 2004 E55. Based on the discussions on this board it ought to rip! I have also ordered a new 2005(?) M6 since I might be able to teach her how to use the SMG. If I decide to sell my E55, and I do mean IF, I would love to keep both, how long do you think it will stay at around MSRP? What is the history? I know that this sounds weird to talk about, but I always like to plan ahead?

Thanks

You mean how many miles and/or how many months will you be able to drive a new E55 before its resale value falls below MSRP?
A few hundred miles will likely drop it below MSRP in this economy, unless you are able to find a zealous buyer in south Florida or California, where demand has historically been higher and takes longer to satiate.
Texas doesn't have quite the same level of demand as those two, and within TX, Dallas seems to be the hottest market for the higher end models.

3 years ago you could have put a few thousand miles on it and you still might have been able to find a buyer close to MSRP.
Not any more.
In the over $100,000 market, demand isn't affected by the economy as much as in the $75,000 market.

Around here at the dealers i've been visiting there's already take about added markups and premiums. It's great you have the #1 spot but are you able to get it for msrp?

JamE55,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have checked with my dealer and my deal will be he will call me to let me order color and options. I will pay MSRP for the car and all options, plus shipping to where I am from this dealer. I can't wait. I drove an E500 a few weeks ago and its was stronger than my current 540i. The E55 should really rock.

Thanks for your reply

That's great that you're getting it for MSRP. And that will be such an awsome car!

HarvE55,

Two questions: what year is your 540 and when did you sell your m6?

congrats on the #1 slot - spring'03 must seem an eternity!

Hey M6toE55, GREAT USER NAME! I sold my M6 in Sept. 1994 and then had a boring Lexus GS 300 for a while. The problems with my M6 were getting to be a headache, so I chose the best service which to me at that point was Lexus. The Lexus service lived up to its reputation. They would pick my car up at home and return the same day to my office. If I was unhappy with the work, they wouldn't charge me. Incredible huh! BUT, the Lexus was a let down to drive, so I ordered a 2000 540ia (It would have been an M5, but for my wife's clutch problem). My 540 has been great, but after my M6 doesn't cut it. When I found out I could get a new E55 I was jazzed. Your right I can't wait. I talked to my MB dealer today and he said that he just got info on the CLK55, but nothing on order date for the E55 yet.

HarvE55 - before I drove the e55, I was tossed-up between a 2000 540i and a 740i [w/ sport/prem options] - I liked the power of the 4.4L v8, but couldn't get beyond the mass-produced nature of the cars... the m5 was out of reach, plus: as much as I love driving my m6, there's nothing worse that clutching my way around a beltway backup or rush-hour dc traffic... literally after one drive of a 2000 e55, I was sold - performance, luxury, and limited production, all wrapped up for a relatively reasonable price!

happy holidays -
