If the new E55 is to be released in April, why no price yet??

It doesn't make sense to me that we are possibly 4 months from release of the E55 in the States, yet we have no pricing. The UK has it starting at around 60k pounds, which, when taking out 17.5% VAT (included in price) comes to just under 50k pounds. At the current exchange rate, this comes to around $78,000.
NOW - if one takes the price of a C32AMG in the UK, it starts at 43.8k pounds - taking out VAT comes to about 36k pounds - converted to USD comes to $57,000 or so, which is MORE than the US MSRP of just over $52,000. Essentially, the UK price is more than the US price by about 10%, which means, if the same formula is applied, the $72k estimate in AutoWeek is just about dead-on, and this car will be a STEAL compared to its BMW and Audi (RS6) rivals...

The SL55 price was unknown until just prior to launch.
If the same holds true for E55 we won't know a firm price until late spring (northern hemisphere).
Base is looking like it should be 74-76 range.

My guessing has been based on the premise that the E55 is usually below the price of the US S430 which is $72,600 for 2003. Destination charge not added.
My "guesstimate" - $72,500 without Comand Nav and $74,800 with Comand.

You mean lux tax?
It disappears in 3 weeks.
E55 availability won't be as limited as it is for the SL55, I'm sure!
Someone recently posted that they put down a deposit on an E55 in the last month and they were #1 on the list at the dealer (dealer volume not stated).

I concur, I placed my order last week (#1), and I was also #1 for the 2002 C32 when it was launched. Sometimes I am glad I don't reside in CA or FL, unless it we have days like today (freezing rain). And I have never visited a Mercedes dealer, as all the transactions were handled by fax. I also sent a friend to pick up the car for me, as I was travelling. Sometimes I have read about these markups above MSRP and it astounds me. I recall receiving an email from a gentleman early last year requesting to purchase my spot for $12,000. I ignored it thinking it to be a hoax.
