Question for those with window tinting....

I had mine done yesterday and love the overall affect. I got 30% ceramic tint all the way around. My only complaint is they skipped a shark fin looking area on the rear door stationary window. Its driving me crazy and I want to know if all you guys got stuck with this because of the design of the E series. If not I will address it with the installer.

I am sure thats not the case. The entire window was not skipped just a smaller shark fin looking area. If you look at your car you will understand why.

i understand what you are talking about b/c i have the same "shark fin" piece missing in the rear as well.

i got my windows tinted at a very reputable shop in los angeles (dealing almost exclusively with exotics and high end autos) and they said it had to be that way b/c they could not get in that space to ensure the tint would be smoothed enough to prevent future bubbling.

now, you could remove parts of the car (i believe you would have to remove the door panel from the inside...iirc) but i did not care to have them do that.

hope this helps...and if anyone knows of an easier fix to this problem, please, do tell...

Mine are tinted 30 and 50 with no "shark fin", take it back, they made a mistake they probably hoped you wouldn't notice.

4 wheeled car.
Here's the reason why: There is a rubber piece covering that part of the window. To get to it properly, they need to trim some of the rubber away so that the film can slip behind it and adhere to the window. It's feasible, but only an experienced shop will do it.

These guys signaturetint.com in Costa Mesa rock, they cut the film via computer so that piece for the "shark fin" area is pre cut perfect and they are able to get it back there for the sweet full black look. I got 5& rear and 20% front, I also had the visor strip installed too, top notch work. I just had mine done there a few weeks ago because I had to replace the film from the previous owner. The pic in my sig is my old tint by the way.

For Socal peeps ask for Dave or Kerry

It was "A Shade Darker" in santa rosa. I spoke to Tony at total eclipse yesterday for a second opinion and he said they will have to pull the window to get to it. The guys at a shage darker are willing to call in the glass guys to do the same. I will most likely just pay eclipse to fix it since one of the partners use to do glass work. In hind site I should have gone there to begin with but Aaron raved about the guys at a shade darker so I went with them.

Sat radio get installed next week.

PS stay away from me with your pullies, cams, throttle body etc. I am trying to keep the car stock!!!!

Well maybe some minor mods. I have a 600hp 993tt and a 500hp S4 sitting in the garage as proof of how far out of hand thing can get. Trying to keep things melow with the E55. Swapping the arm rest for the early style is next on the adjenda.
