New Cadillac CTS-V is the fastest 4dr around the 'Ring, ever - 7:59
09 CTS-V Blisters Nurburgring
Breaks 8-minute barrier - potentially the fastest documented lap time for a production sedan
In testing today at Germany's Nurburgring, Cadillac's upcoming new 2009 CTS-V completed a lap of the legendary Nordschleife in 7:59.32. This blistering time appears to be the fastest ever publicly documented for a production sedan.
Cadillac is nearing the completion of testing for the highly anticipated CTS-V, the limited-edition high-performance model based on the award-winning CTS sport sedan. John Heinricy, GM Performance Division executive and an acclaimed racing driver, piloted the CTS-V through its sub-8 minute lap. The car itself had no performance modifications outside of those planned for consumer production, which is scheduled to begin this fall.
Estimated at 550-hp, the CTS-V is at the moment going through the final stages of intensive testing and development. One of the realistic objectives of the Cadillac team is to make the CTS-V the world's fastest production sedan, as a part of the overall goal to make the V-Series Cadillac's ultimate expression of performance and technology. More updates will be released in the coming weeks as testing is finalized, including the car's certified SAE power ratings, acceleration specifications and U.S.-market pricing.
Video documentation of the car's breakthrough Nordschleife performance will be posted online in the coming days at http://cadillac.gmblogs.com
The eight-minute mark has long been recognized as a major Nurburgring milestone, reserved for race cars and the fastest exotic sports cars. While there's no single official repository for Nurburgring data from private test sessions, numerous reputable websites and publications report lap times from race teams, automakers and independent sources.
The new 2009 CTS-V includes a suite of advanced performance technologies, including a new version of Cadillac's acclaimed Magnetic Ride Control suspension and the LSA 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 engine. For the first time, CTS-V will include the choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, with the new automatic sporting steering wheel-mounted shift buttons.

I'm telling ya, was talking with the guy from Katech who knows the designers of these engines. He claims when guys start modding these, POOF!!!
Just not built stout like the AMG. People are going to mistake this for the Vette motor and he says in principle it is, but just not all the quality parts are used.
His words not mine, couple of corners cut for the Cad motors.

I'm loving this car on paper. Come on, 550HP/550TQ with luxury for around $65K. It's available with a true manual which I love. That alone will make it feel much more sportier compared to cars like the E55 or RS6. I'm sure the level of fit/finish won't match the high level German sedans but I bet it comes close which will be a bargain for the price. I've read numerous reports where the media was blown away by the improved materials used in the new CTS-V interior. While the motor's not forged like the ZR1, I bet you can safely squeeze out another 50-75 HP with a pulley/tune/exhaust. I know some of you guys will turn your noses up at it b/c it's not German, but I really think this will put Cadillac in high performance sedan contention with the big guys (Audi, BMW, MB).

You guys sound like a bunch of worried little girls.
BTW Vader, my friend is the one with a basket picking up the parts to his E55 and did so for his C32 as well.

Wow!
Under the hood is an impressive collection point for injection molded plastic.
Beyond that catty remark, the seats look much more attractive to me than MB seats do. I like the look of those, they look like BMW seats, which in my NSHO are much better than MB's.

I like it!!!
I am surprised 4-door performance cars have taken so long to take off in the USA. Here in Australia 4 door V8 performance cars are generally considered the mainstream performance car. Our motor racing "V8 Supercars" series, which has been around for many years, is responsible for the birth of many V8 family sedan racing icons.
If you’re interested to check out some v8 Aussie 4 doors I have attached good links.

Don’t mean to hijack thread. Hope you find it interesting.

again i like it....
When the origional CTS-V had come out I was really interested in it. I loved how it looked. I got talked out of it by my wife because she and I both thought the inside was cheap looking. All plastic and fairly plain looking. She talked me out of it and I bought a C55 AMG(my first AMG) and a couple years later I decided I wanted something a bit larger and bought an e63 when they came out in 07. I have been very happy with it, except for my mileage when i get on it
As far as the new CTS-V i will probably go check it out when it arrivess, but even now as much as I like it will probably stay in my AMG. I dont like what I have been hearing for the last few months about sub-par parts being used. Also the outside of the car is sick looking!!! Probably one of the meanest looking 4 door cars I have seen(atleast from the front). From the pics I see of the inside, its a GREAT improvement!!! But when I look closely I can see they still are using a lot of cheap looking plastic. I realize all cars use a certain amount of it in their cars, but it being a GM car they didnt do a good job of hiding it a little more.
Anyway sweet car. Cant wait to test drive it in person. Looking forward to my E having 600hp and whooping all over a new one on the streets

I love the negative attitudes here. This is an impressive car. A very impressive car. I'm particularly interested as Cadillac is releasing a CTS wagon. If they make a CTS-V wagon, I'll seriously consider it.
Attitudes about crappy GM cars are outdated. Trust me, my Corvette C6 is one he** of a car.

Really? Who's modifying them? GM hasn't shipped a single car with this engine. The only other car with is is the Corvette ZR-1.

trust ME, the attitudes are NOT outdated. you are correct about the c6 being one hell of a car but the interior is still dogsh*t. and this new cts with the fake alcantera seats is following the same cheap interior path of the current gm cars. even if this car has an option for full leather, i haven't seen leather seats in a gm car last more than 2 years without starting to look like death warmed over.
