Intake psi?

Has anyone measured the intake psi? I've always wanted a way to open up the breathing for the 55ks, but have had a hard time figuring out the right configuration. In either case, when we do start messing with it, I would like to look at the psi in the intake side to see how much drag there is. I would hope that any mods, including the CF airbox or K&Ns or whatever should be quantifiable by monitoring the pressure.

Funny, I have a biotech datalogger with the pressure, but not one or the car. I want to buy a nice datalogger anyway and wondered if anyone recommends one that has pressure sensors (or optional) as well?

Last thing, is an air flow meter realistic? That would really tell, since I can monitor temp and humidity, too.

I may be mistaken , but I think you are trying to establish pressure drop across the intake tract.

If so, you would need a minimum of 2 pressure transducers and a meter.

This would probably cover your needs:

Seriously, look into HVAC suppliers for your pressure meter needs. Ebay has a unit with 2 inputs for cheap:

Here's another 2-input unit.

Search for "manometer" and make sure you have the appropriate PSI range for your needs.

Very nice. That is exactly what I wanted.

I think some dataloggers that have OBDII ports also have the same add on abilities and was wondering which (if any) people recommend?

Its too bad we don't have a mass air flow sensor... we did a bit of tweaking with intakes on the Audi side, and saw measurable changes when making intake changes logged this way. Not really sure the resolution on the MAP sensor, but the MAFs were in grams per second.

The biggest, noticeable changes came in throttle response and rates of acceleration (not necessarily big HP improvements, but increased spooling response of turbos, etc...)

LOL!! That is exactly what i am after. Vadim@VRP has built my beast, I just want to tweak it a bit. Thanks for the reply. Any idea what name brand OBDII datalogger to get that also has ability to add sensors?

Here you go:

"DashDyno reads sensors from the vehicle ECU using the OBD II port. However, sometimes its desirable to add a custom sensor of your choosing or measure on-board vehicle sensor directly. For instance, measuring turbo boost pressure using an external intake manifold pressure sensor.

DashDyno is expandable and equipped with two auxiliary ports allowing easy connection of external sensors. The auxiliary ports have four analog inputs, one digital input, and one digital output. Each analog input is range selectable between 0-6V, 0-12V and 0-24V.

The formula feature is used to apply a conversion scale factor and offset to convert voltage to another units of measure.

All data can be viewed on-screen, recorded to an SD card, and analyzed on a PC. "

Here's the main page: http://www.auterraweb.com/dashdynoseries.html

I have used their windows-based datalogging software, and it works well.

I prefrer one that rus off a laptop. The car has so many sensors that it would be cool to be able to monitor some.

thanks for the lead. is this the best brand for just an enthusiast user?

You would have a blast with it. I would get the unit - it does read off of the OBD-II port and uses all of the car's sensors.

The PC-based stuff doesn't have the extra sensor input feature.

I am running Auto Enginuity off laptop via OBDII and LOVE IT!!

AUTO TAP is Satan and I am begging you to stay away from it.

Also learned super fast through this whole process that OBDII is just the worst with our cars Jang. If you have the laptop monitor just ONE sensor, you get a few samples per sec, 2 sensors and you get less per sec and so on. Basically you are able to monitor bout 4 or maybe 5 and get a sample maybe every second, sometime every .75sec.

It just the speed we are stuck with on the ole Benz. Lot of reports online of OBDII guys getting lots and lots of samples per sec, but I have tried 2 different systems and same results each time. Auto Eng just is an entirely better system. Easier to use, more modern looking and TON more features.

Just some info from a guy that pulled all his hair out fighting the OBDII war only to find out I could never win it.
