Looking at 04-05 E55s
Hello all,
Right now I am interested in a 04 e55 with about 35K miles. I am new to the MB world. I was just wondering what are some major things to look for when inspecting this car. Also how has your experience been with these cars? Are they pretty much reliable? I also drive an 01 Porsche Turbo which has been pretty good so far. Thanks for your help

Me too... ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also looking at 996TT but doubt I'll go that route.
Can't think of another car with roughly 515 lb/tq for $45k...
Everyone says CPO, but what happens when you throw a few mods on the car?

You should go for it hehe!
So just like the P-car CPO of course is a good idea. But I know for the Porsche there were certain issues (2nd gear pop out, Type I,II revs, etc) to look for? Anythinegof the sort with 04-50 E55s?
Thanks

can you explain the 2nd gear pop out to me. I have a friend with a c4s that is having the problem right now and has no idea why it keeps grinding.

Highend...about a year ago when I was searching for a 996TT one of the things I found was to see if the car had a 2nd gear pop out. I'm not a technical expert on the matter but apparently some cars had issues with the synchros in the transmission. To fix the problem the entire transmission had to eb taken out and as you can guess with Porsche's its quite costly. I was lucky to find a 996TT with a CPO warranty till Feb of 09. Even with a Porsche warranty the Porsche can be quite picky if they see you car has many mods (short shifter, turbos, ecu flash etc).
I'm not sure if the C4S have the same issue.
So I was curious if e55s have any issue that one should be aware of

I dont own a W211 E55 but all that I know of is a charger going out, only because a friend of mine had his die on him and left him with no power.
