Sorry if I jumped to conclusions, but your post just struck me as weird. Whenever I buy a new car, I spend a looooong time poking around, test-driving, shopping, until I find the exact thing I want. Sometimes it takes me anywhere from months to a year to find one I'm happy with, and sometimes I never find it. As an example, I'm still looking for the perfect '79 SEL 6.9 and probably will never find it...most of them are junk.
So when a newbie comes on and posts something like "Help me pick between two $100k cars...and I have to buy one or the other in 24 hours" it just seems really bizarre. I can't imagine getting something under those conditions...
A: Buying a car like that is silly, because you're going to get gang-raped on the price and you won't find the options you want, and maybe not the colors either. B: If you don't spend a decent amount of time with it before you buy it, you run the chance of not being happy with it once you have it.
So it just struck me as odd...

but nobody has answered my question regarding houston weather, and the heat soaking issues i've read about on this forum before. that's the biggest factor in my decision between purchasing the e55 and m5. i want realiabilty or should i say consistency!
its gets really hot down here during the summer. the heat index can climb over 100 F easily.

Driving style should also factor in here. If you're generally a calm, passive driver with occasional manic fits then I'd go for the E55. If you like to drive around everywhere like you have a 6 star wanted level in Grand Theft Auto I'd suggest the M5.
I am personally a very aggressive driver, my German genes won't let me waste a single second or opportunity, so my M5 fits that niche perfectly.

the S85 engine in the M5 and M6 is a high reving race engine. It needs you to drive it like you stole it. The car is amazing in rpm ranges over 6k rpm but down low you will miss that TQ that MBZ is so famous for.
I also love the Heads Up Display which is a must in the M car plus the throttle response is so much better than in an E55 and definitely in a 65 (I owned both modded). The M Cars are so much fun to drive but with that being said, if you are in a bad mood or being lazy or stuck in traffic or just plain afraid to always be pushing the car to the max- it may not be for you.
Most first time drivers of the M Cars and SMG will balk at it being to harsh and jerky but thats just beginners talk IMHO. The shifts in S6 mode are faster than almost any tranny out there sans a few. The car screams over 100 mph but from a dig, its not the best.
One of THE best things on this car is the exhaust note- stock is awesome but a simple bolt on from the cat back and you got yourself a crazy sounding F1 like symphony that IMO is worth all the money and eliminates the need for a stereo.
Im much like Cylinder Head, but more into Russian women while he likes the Czecho style. We both love to drive the cars at ALL times fast- hence my attorney on retainer for traffic tickets. One thing I can say for the M cars, it wont happen over night. When say IT I mean the feeling of euphoria as you reach speeds of 180 to 200 mph. The cars are some of the best freeway racers around with great steering and brake feel (better than the Benzes Ive owned).
