Not that fuel economy is a reason to get the E63...

But after taking the car on its first long distance drive to/from Montreal for the Canadian GP weekend, the car really impressed with a 21+ MPG rating on the NY Thruway/I87 and 20.2 MPG overall for the 700+ miles trek.

While cruise was mostly 75-80 MPH, did get a chance to crack the whip a bit with a few fellow travelers and even those moments of indiscretion did not throw the fuel economy off.

And of course the overall driving experience was superb - the car is built to eat continents all day long and with all the exotics in town for the GP weekend, I didn't see another E63 all weekend long..which means it was rarer than the Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari F430/360...

That's great! I took a 200 mile drive (all highway) a few weekends ago and averaged 25MPG in my E55. I only got on it twice, so that may have something to do about it.

But city driving is a different story.

I drove down to LA last weekend and I avg. approx 19 mpg. I was on it a lot. Odd thing, I noticed the 405 wasn't a parking lot like I remembered it.

On several long trips I've averaged 23 MPG. Wonder what the gas mileage would be if I actually checked it. Does anyone know if the calculator is accurate?

Same with me last weekend....and my AVERAGE MPH for the trip said 69.

Which means I was going 80+ for most of the trip.

I drove down to NY a few weeks ago, the computer said I was averaging over 22 mpg with an average speed in the 75-80 mph range.

On the way back, I got pulled over by a MA state patrol. My computer was showing 3hrs 19 mins from NY with an average speed of 74. I was pulled over for allegedly traveling "100+" and for merging quite aggressively. I apparently appeared to be racing with a white c300, an allegation I denied. I did not think it appropriate to engage the officer in a conversation as to the ludicrous-ness(pardon the made up word) of a race between a c300 and an e63, as I deemed discretion to be the better part of valor at that moment. He asked where I was coming from, I said "NYC". He looked at the computer and said. "NYC, huh? What time did you leave? You are making pretty good time!" As I mentioned, average speed on the screen was right in front of us both, and he was staring at it. There was an uncomfortable silence. I said "I know that average looks high, but I did most of my speeding in NY and CT." He asked "why do you look nervous, do you have a weapon in the car? I said "I am nervous because you just busted my a$$ doing something incredibly stupid. And I am so dead." He almost laughed, and went back to his car. When he came back, he said "I could have you in handcuffs for that speed while crossing 4 lanes of traffic, but I am writing you for 80+ and not 100+. Don't even try to fight it." I did not. And I still averaged 19+ on that leg of the trip even with the higher speeds.

I also did the trek to and from Montreal this weekend with the same results - approx 21 mpg. did manage to crank it wide open for the first on the way back to the border - was amazing..
