I dont think anyone siad the IS-f was slow. I have had a similiar experience with a blue IS-F on the highway and I was surprised. I expected the car to be quicker and keep up more so. Its just that E55s and E63s are faster, thats all.
That's fair .....point well taken. If you read all of the postings....someone did say it's a slow car but nevertheless, I wouldn't mind having one, they're very fun cars to drive. I just can't wait to see how well the LF A performs when it comes out.

Way to compare apples to oranges. Why don't we just throw a Prius up against a Z06 for *****s and giggles.

Well, far to often I see BMW and Mercedes owners bragging if you will on how SUPERIOR German cars are to Japanese cars etc. I just get tired of the cocky individuals out there that can't give other cars their just due...granted it might not be up to par with the German engines yet, but boy oh boy...Lexus is very innovative and I think the F is a solid entry level move into the performance market for Lexus.

Fixed that for you.

Check my signature, you'll see a Japanese car in there that would wipe the floor with most German cars. I just think the IS-F is ugly and didn't bring enough gunpowder to the fight.

Right on E55! You said the key word..."Reliability" I agree 100%. As a new AMG owner, I have to admit I am disgusted on how such of a poor job Mercedes has done with all the faulty issues with these cars. Maybe it's the Crysler in the Daimler-Chrysler that's taken over ehh?

As for reliability, that is a separate conversation all-together!

On another note, I FULLY understand that the IS-F is not as fast as an AMG E. My point is that it's not going to get "raped", but will definately get pulled, no doubt... You all have to remember, the IS-F is NOT a competitor to the E class, if Lexus ever builds the GS-F, that will be the competitor to the E. At this point, Lexus does not have a car that can compete with the AMG E.

Cylinder - there is no party here, just a discussion. In fact, I think it's YOU that is missing the point. When racing, especially from a roll, revs STAY in the 6,000-8,500 range (roughly, I'm guesstimating here) and whether or not you have a manual or a M-DCT will not change that fact. The IS-F is a quicker/faster car, than the M3, but then again, that is not the topic of this thread. Oh, and by the way, I would offer to have fun and race an M3 and video tape it as well if anyone is game.

LOL....very clever there Cylinder changing my post...funny stuff...but you're right. I agree. I think Lexus could have ante'd up more ponies on the huge 8 speed engine. However, the looks I've gotten used to. I just wasn't willing to pay 61K for a supped up IS 350 The IS F was my first love .....I'm sure you all figured that one out by now.

Having said that, I ran a CLS55 in my IS-F from about 35-90 (hardly a race) and we were about even. I would love to run a stock E55 or a stock CLS55 (or 63 for that matter) anytime.

I am coordinating the next 60-130 competition at Lonestar and would offer up my IS-F in a side by side race on the drag strip. We can run them from a dig and a roll. Here is the detail on the event if anyone is interested:

OK, it's about that time again folks!!!!! We haven't had a 60-130 event since TX2K8 and it's time for us to have another excuse to get together. Since it's been SOOOOOOOOO hot outside, I would like to do this next event at night...

Location: www.lonestarmotorsportspark.com

Day/Date: Saturday July 26, 2008

Gates Open: 8:00 pm

Track Hot: 9:00 pm - 12:00 am (midnight)

Caravan Information: Meet at the Conoco at the corner of I-10 and Eldridge at 7:00 pm. Let's get a large group together so we can all caravan out together!!!!!!

Cost: $50 to race and $10 to spectate just like always

I understand 1 or maybe 2 mags have hit 114 on traps for this car.. but not the norm. To say the IS-F is a 113 to 114 car is like saying the C63 is a 115 to 116 trap car... that is not the case.

It will depend on the altitude, weather and traction conditions.

However.. I do believe 111-112 should be a good normal trap speed for this car.

The IS-F should pull a 6dp manual M3 but won't be able to pull on the M-DCT M3.

IS-F should be close to a C63 and E63.. but as higher speeds build.. the AMG will pull just a bit more.

No 55 AMG or 63 stock is going to kill the IS-F with the right driver.. The AMG will need to make sure full power is applied, or else you might be seeing the tail lights of the Lexus.

A car trapping 112 to a car trapping 114-115 is not a big difference.

Besides the 8sp auto shift alot quicker the the 5sp Auto and a bit quicker than the 7sp boxes.

VERY methodical and well written post. The ONE thing I completely disagree with you on is that the M-DCT M3 will pull the IS-F. There will be no difference b/w the 6-speed and the M-DCT (except for shift times, which will be quicker in the M-DCT but not enough to make up the deficit).

Vic - on the street a 2-3 mph difference will be a SLOWWWW pull, especially if the faster car is not RIGHT ON ITS GAME.

von - one day at a time buddy! It's SCORCHING here this summer. I think my Supra loses 50+ rwhp due to the heat in the summer...

According to every test so far, the M-DCT is .2 seconds faster to 60. So yeah, big difference. Just like there was a huge difference in the acceleration times for the M5 between 6-speed and SMG trannies. It's undeniable. Please do not make me google, I'm very busy at work.

Thanks for your hard work on this (I respect that you are busy). Again, this discussion is off-topic and I'm not sure what a post on m5board has anything to do with the discussion at hand...but, like I said, again, I'm here in Houston and ready/willing to video tape.

I hear you vic..

3mph is alot on a 1/4 track when racing against a clock and limited space.

however you more than I know.. you give a car trapping 112 the jump for 1 second.. and it will take some time to reel him in.

Specially if the AMG is not on the correct power band or if set to Comfort on our slush box.

the 3 mph advantage will eventully show its true colors.. but not on short burst or 0-60 stop light races.

Thanks bro ... it is so true about the rolling launch advantage and that's probably why some slower cars beat faster ones and then the mag racers come running in saying it aint so.

I still want my 3 mph

just ran one

I was on my way to get my evosport underdrive pulleys removed (they don't work well with a renntech supercharger) when I saw an IS-F on highway 280 in Mexico.

At first I was just pacing him so I just sat behind him whenever he jumped it. The IS-F seemed pretty damn slow. It had dealer plates and a single occupant.
We played this game a few times and I got bored so I stopped bothering to accelerate up to him. (BTW the car sounds pretty nice) He obviously wanted to play more (or thought he had a chance) and kept trying to entice me, I wouldn't bite ... 7.99 a gallon is expensive. Then we slowed down due to traffic and I went around all the slow traffic. He followed my line and was now behind me. Clearly he wanted to wait for an opening and jump again. Unfortunately for him I decided to play this time and jumped out. Now it was his turn to play catchup and try to pace. He did horrible. In a few seconds he was already very far back and losing ground fast.
I slowed down to about 70 and he tried to do a ricer flyby but I started accelerated right as he was about to pass and just sat on his ***. He immediately got off the next exit.

Btw my top was down with ac on HIGH.

Heh heh I loved the part where I was accelerating away and kept waving my hand for him to catch up.
