Opinions, Please: Trade: 07 E63 for 05 CL65?
Ok Guys, what do you think?
I have been offered a trade, EVEN UP. Here are the details:
My E63: 2007, 18k miles - stock, no stories. Every option except the glass top.
The CL65: 2005, 15K miles - stock, no stories. Every option.
I like the idea of 600+ HP and 700+ ft lbs. of torque.
I don't like the fact that the warranty is almost due and it does not currently have an extended one. I would think it would be mandatory to put the DiamlerChrysler on one, for an additional cost of course.
Also don't like the fact that it is the old CL body style. Not that it is a bad style, just a dated one.
What would you do???

The 63 is a better all around car. the 65 may have more power but, the extended warranty will cost a bundle. the 63 is more refined and has more functionality.

$ wise, you're getting the raw end of the deal. 05 CL 65's approaching end of warranty is likely in the low $50's right now at Manheim. It might even be high $40's. I would think the 07 E63's with low mileage fetch much more than that.

Plus for CL 65- Horse Power
Plus for E-63- Warranty, current body, not last generation like the CL, you know the REAL history of the car.
Besides, if you have to ask even ask this question you are obviously second guessing, that means you don't love the CL 65. Bottom line, if you are not in love, don't do it.

Right now 05 CL's on Autotrader are running 69-89K.
Aren't ANY E63 2007's for sale on Autotrader right now. Not even 06's. WOW. Popular car. Looked on Kelly Blue Book and she came out around 78K.
Think it all depends on how much you are willing to lose for the fun you will have. OH, and you will have fun in that car.
Just know that she (the 65) is gonna keep dropping like a rock each year.
If you can afford it, have some V12 insane fun for a year and then ditch it.
Not sure if you care about gas prices but as long as you are cool with prices approaching mid 5's by end of the year, sounds pretty nice. I work out of the house so I could care less about commute gas usage.
Warrany is scary though. That could be the deal buster.

05/22/08 RIVRSIDE $59,000 16,924 Above PEWTER 12G
These are all 2005's. Only one with less then 20k miles. These prices seem cheap. I guess that answers that. I still love the HP and TQ though...

beyond price and warranty, what is the purpose of the car?
for me personally i wouldn't do it. if i wanted two doors, i would pick up another porsche or maybe an italian. if i need 4 seats, i would stick with the E.

I was thinking that. Abit concerned with the TQ number then. Don't think we want to exceed 545 with our tranny. Actually, I think we probably want to be below that abit...

That supercharged 6.3 is gonna be sweet, but with simple chip you are upper 600's hp wise with the 6.5 and then AMG just revealed a little secret with the 6.5 BS that with different resonators (think they called um silencers) they upped the hp even more on the BS. There's another 10-20hp for ya to approach the 700hp mark for all the terror you want to put yourself through on the roads.
Just my 2 pennies. The only good part of this whole deal is there will always be another deal. If you are worried at all, just wait on it.
Being lazy in not reading the whole post over for the info, but.....why would a person trade in one of AMG top of the line models for the E63 again??
Wondering what this guys motivation is?? We know what yours is.

With the brand new news of Turb V8's coming from Benz. 100% hold on the trade. Stick with the E for a year or so and then enjoy the turbocharged fun.

Don't do it! If you really wanted power that bad you coulda got yourself a Z06. The E63 is sick, of course the CL65 is just as hot but i wouldn't trade the 63 for the 65 just for power.

somethings better left unsaid ...
I prefer everything about the E 63 over the CL 65 including the V8 engine .. which is a matter of preference .. so if it was the other way around I'd go for the CL, especially that the whole "being dated" point is going to be applied to the E very shortly ..
I was going to say the same but then I realized the CL has less milage on its clock actually.
don't know about the waranty, though.
