Auto taped colder Thermostat

After installing a new I/C pump a week ago with stock thermostat ; results were. 14.5-16 deg timimg. engine temp 196-205 deg. and IAT would run 126-155. Did not like the 155 after 4 hard runs but they did recover quickly to 130 ish.

All runs both weeks were at 90-91 deg. ambient.

Installed new colder T stat and wow! Nice temp drop for this Texas heat. Average driving temp is 178-180 deg. and 190 after 4-6 hard runs.. What was really nice, was average IAT`s stayed 8-10 deg colder. 122 deg is my average in this heat now. On a full hard run, I would not exceed 138 deg verses 155 on stock T stat.. Timing seemed to hold very well at 16-16.5 deg.

Just need to get fans to come on sooner.

SEPARATE the systems. The 10 degree fan mod can be done by Star SDS.

+1 Separating the IC and engine cooling circuits is a must do on this platform.

I have the PTE (site sponsor) Tstat. I have used his Tstats in other cars. Always recieved a 1st class product and great service.

I may seperate the system some day but wanted to get general data and performance on easy cooling upgrades (pump, tstat and fan mod) first . Will add the Pulley mod in the next few weeks and see where I need to go from there. I am still doing searches and reading up on how much a seperate system really helps in hard numbers (not to easy to find this info).

good info.

if you are stock.. this solution will work.

Addinga a bigger pulley will require better IAT relief.

I still spike to 150F on a 90degree day.. but quickly cool down to 110F in a matter of 10secs or so.

Yes it does! I did more data logging in 99-100 ambient yesterday. 10 deg. hotter than the first test. I drove for 16 miles at 70 mph and the coolant finally reached about 186 by then and seemed to level off. IAT stayed about 126 at those high ambient temps. I then turned around and did a hard WOT run. IAT went up to 136 only and then recovered back to 129-130 in just a few seconds. Very happy with those results and no timing seemed to be pulled. Engine temp after two runs went up to 196 and then very, very slowly started to come down at 70mph cruising to 192. At slower speeds, the coolant cooled even quicker (55-65mph).

Bottom line, my data shows a solid 10-15 degree average coolant temp reduction with the cooler T stat.. I would not want to run any cooler than that. I would like to see a quicker recovery from 196 when I reach that high, but will most likely need the 10 deg. fan mod to help that out.. Hope to have that mod soon and see what happens.
