Thanks for the pic, looking very nice. I would love to see your cars.

duPont Registrys Cars and Coffee is the place to be the 3rd Saturday of each month, right?

AMGfan, great build thread! I just read it straight through. Excellent add-ons, mods and custom touches. I believe like you when making changes to do it the RIGHT WAY, and that usually means being very particular! Great job.

I have a question about the "water transfer" carbon fiber pieces. It's been a while since you had these done---how are they holding up? Did you get the "show quality" version ($1/sq in) or the standard? Any extra clear coats, etc on the exterior CF pieces you had done to ensure longevity? Like you, I plan to keep a car like this for the duration, and don't want peeling, chipping or any original chrome or wood underneath showing through.

I'm specifically curious about how ding-resistant the refinished chrome pieces are w/the water transfer applique now. Are those all parts you can wax? Any special maintenance required?

Sorry for all the questions but I couldn't find much on the hydro-dip.com website about these q's.

I would consider getting several pieces done to my cars if I knew they would be durable and chip resistant.

Thanks. And, awesome car!

One last thing...I've owned 2 black cars. Drop dead gorgeous when clean. But black paint a B*TCH to keep clean! I don't envy that part of your car at all, especially in humid/rainy south Florida! You need to move that sucker out to So Cal with us where a car duster is all you need 11 months out of the year

Like you, I plan to keep a car like this for the duration, and don't want peeling, chipping or any original chrome or wood underneath showing through. (I didn't realize there was a show quality version...whatever I got it was a finish I was very happy with. I have had no problem with any chipping except for the front part of the car where road debris has made 2 faint chips on the front trim...nothing dramatic but probably only noticeable to me.)

I'm specifically curious about how ding-resistant the refinished chrome pieces are w/the water transfer applique now. Are those all parts you can wax? Any special maintenance required? (Like with any finish, driving at speed through any road debris will eventually cause damage. There is no extra special care needed and those parts can be waxed.)

Sorry for all the questions but I couldn't find much on the hydro-dip.com website about these q's.

I would consider getting several pieces done to my cars if I knew they would be durable and chip resistant. (You could get them covered with some sort of clear guard to get added ding resistance)

Thanks. And, awesome car!

I hope your mods come out great.

The most beautifully detailed 55 I've ever seen pictures of.

I love the headliner and A pillars.

Thanks for sharing the build.

The trunk gives me great ideas

your car looks nuts.. i had a question for you as far as the faux carbon fiber finish where did you get it done and how much was it. I have been looking everywhere to try and find someone to do this on my interior pieces and to change all my chrome pieces as well.

I just revisited this thread and re-read...what a nice car. I think the french-stitched alcantara pieces are my favorite custom pieces...gotta get something like that done on mine.

Ended up selling her and got the GT-R instead and been tied up with that build, then the 993Turbo and 997tt builds. I did get the wide body Prior Design kit for the SL65 and that build is about to start.

Don't forget about some golf thrown in there if you get up here...just play Plantation Palms this past weekend. It kicked my *** but at least I was with my buds...and stogies.

Gonna need it...it's always a lot of prep work on any aftermarket kit. Its probably the norm rather than the exception but thankfully we have a great body and paint shop we use.

From where is the grill?

Ok, love the grill. Not sure if I'll do the carbon or not because of how much other chrome I might have to do to match. But, the star in the grill is a must. I saw on page one it says 'CL carbon fiber faux finish'. Does that mean that the grill is from a CL model? If so, anyone know what years work?

Lots of great ideas on the car. I'll use those I can afford. But now, it's the grill. Anyone know?

Amazing craftsmanship, I am very impressed. I only wonder how well will all that carbon transfer film hold up to use? Unless of course the car is just a show car then it doesn't matter.
