Replacing headers - what's involved?

Looking at getting some short headers soonish - what's involved in replacing the stock ones?

Could an exhaust shop do it for me on a ramp? Or is it more involved?

For Shorty's a Lot of stuff has to come off and go back on but a good exhaust guy should be able to do it in 4+ hours (6 at the max)

I agree, any decent exhaust shop should be able to do the job in 4-6 hours. Without looking in the engine bay myself, I'd have to say the short list of things to be taken off is: everything in the way.

Don't take it to Midas!!

Depending on the make. If they are like ours, than it will take around 4-5 hrs.

If they are more like unequal length where the bolts are hard to get to, add couple more hours.

Good Luck!

Mine was done on a lift, but it took no time at all. Very clean and nicely handled.

It'll look about like this:

VRP installed mine with nary a hitch. Alas, they’re a bit far for you.

A competent performance-oriented technician can easily handle the task.

Installing shorties is a DIY project if you're so inclined, but the time estimates given above are rather optimistic for a first time installer, whether he's an amateur or a pro. I did my Evo shorties in my garage, and I can assure you it took more than 5 hours, but then I wasn't doing it for pay, but rather for precision - like installing the new gaskets correctly and actually torqueing to spec the nuts and other **** things like that.

Is there anything we should pay more attention to? Torque specs and such.

I'm planning on tackle the headers myself as well.

Thanks.

I think the evosport's are one of the hardest to install, the bolts are a little harder to get to. I helped a friend do a set of Renntech headers and they were easier. The kleeman are not bad either but require exhaust modification which adds to the total process.

Everything is bolt off and then on, so the pain in the butt part is which header you go with. These bays are small and that was a challenge in finding a good design. Honestly, I think the "best" header would need the motor "shifted" from side to side to be mounted properly. Other than that, I don't see us being able to runn fat enough equal shortys.

If you DIY, consider using a lift. It makes a world of difference.
