0-60 in 30 seconds...bad throttle body or sensor

OK. I've just returned from a quick trip to circuit city and was getting on the car...all was fine, it had power. Then I got on it again and it fell on its face.

I was in traffic coasting when it feel on its face doing 60mph and the car had zero power as I was carpeting the pedal. I though the car was turned off but it was on.

I got into the right lane ready to hop off the road to get the car towed but tried to drive the car once the lights changed and got to 10mph in about 5-8 sec...I had to carpet the pedal all the way.

I got up to about 40 mph in about 20 seconds and people went around me, honked, etc.

What the hell could be wrong...bad 80mm TB? Bad throttle position sensor? Vacuum leak?

It happens on my car all the time now. I am not even sure if its safe to drive to the dealer to get it fixed.

I recently had the whole TB/ETC unit replaced, the ETC motor went bad. Took a while for it to finally give up the ghost, but once it did it got to the point it behaved as you described. I thought there was redundancy with the ETC system, but it turns out not as I had thought.

Are you sure it's not in "limp home" mode? That is what it sounds like to me.

is it throwing a code? Faulty TPS should throw a code.

It definitely threw a code as right after it happened the CEL came on.

It had done this before about 4 months ago just once. Sometimes if I turn the car off at a light and then back on it will be fine if and only if I drive it lightly. Once I get on the throttle the car loses 95% of the horsepower.

I just hope MB doesn't say its all due to the VRP 80mm TB and say that they can't fix it. Hopefully the Throttle position sensor is a standalone unit independent of the throttle body?

Anyone know?

Drove the car around and monitored the IATs and boost.

Ambient was 83F. IATs approached 130F after 2-3 pulls from 30-60mph and would not get down lower than 120F after easy driving for 5 minutes.

On several pulls boost was 0-1 psi. It should be 14 psi. Once I got 100% WOT and the car fell on its face and I got the 25hp version. I was beginning to think it was related to the sprint booster.

Then I turned the car off, back on and got into it w/ out 100%...at about 75% WOT the car felt semi normal but I looked at the Boost and then went 100% WOT w/o the car going into limp mode and got 0 psi...felt like a N/A 550.

Hope to find out more on Friday.

How do you know when it goes into limp mode? What are typical causes and fixes? I have had the CEL come on many times before but it has not impacted performance...this is quite different.

I was beginning to think it was related to the sprint booster.
I am a huge process of elimination kinda guy.

You can pull the Sprintbooster in literally 60 secs.

Yank that sucker just to make sure it isn't faulty.

Before I let the stealer come callin, I would knock out that part to see what happens.

Worth a shot. I still say it's throttle position sensor area related.

Who knows though. Those PSI number have me all mixed up now.

Possibly a faulty IC pump leading to the supercharger shutting down? Lot of C32's have had this problem. Sounds like the car is pulling timing in response to something. You running the Johnson pump?

Stop at an auto parts store, they can read the codes for you. Then call the dealer and ask what the codes mean.

My car acted just like that when the s/c pump failed.

You're slower, but the symptoms were the same.

I can't imagine this car not getting above 40MPH because the supercharger failed....it should just feel sluggish without the supercharger.

same symptoms in my clk last year. left the house in the morning to go to work, got down the road and car would not go over 20mph with pedal to the floor. i turned around, went home and pulled the sprint booster, and then went to work.sold the sprint booster the next day.

I got the car back today and the accelerator pedal sensor was bad which was $279.

The IATs were 150F cruising home so still multiple issues. The dealer didn't think the Johnston pump was working properly but would not touch it since it was aftermarket.

What tests, if any, can be done to determine if it is broken?

OK, OK you da man.

Is that sensor typical on our cars to go bad? I have had my car go limp, no throttle response twice now after playing the throttle up and down for fun. I have to shut the car off and restart it to get it going.

thread resurrection....

Baller,

Did you ever figure out a solution to your problem. I am having the same issues with my VRP 80mm?

I'm getting quite a few CEL,
unmetered air
misfire---which is more than likely due to a leak of sorts.

Trying to work through these issues before throwing in the towel.

Thanks
