Two caveats: The new one comes out next year, so you are going to depreciate like a Buick, so if you are not keeping it for more than 5 or 6 years and are driving it within 10-15k per year, I'd lease it. And while Merc has made great strides in QC, you should still expect an occasional trip to the service department... nothing radical, but probably on average one more trip a year than you'd get out of a Lexus. I find they usually do their "campaigns" as they call them when I bring the car in for it oil changes, therefore I just leave it for the oil change and have them give me a loaner for the day. Usually, if I tell them in advance to check for campaigns before I bring the car in, they have whatever parts they might need on hand and it does not extend my stay or require a second trip. An example, last time I was in they swapped out my dipstick for a longer one (no phalic jokes please). No big deal.
Be prepared for half of the guys on the board to tell you to buy a two year old e55 wagon. Which actually would save you quite a bit of depreciation and coin, and is much more easily modified.
Oh yeah, and did I mention snow tires? And be prepared for more looks than you'd expect, it is one exclusive car that most people just won't "get". Good luck!

I SWEAR I could pass a Corvette doing 20 over, and he'd get pulled over.
:-D
