I have a feeling that a Black Series sedan is gonna be next, is it gonna be a C or E? That is if Mercedes even keeps the Black Series name in the line up beyond 2009. Word is they might drop it after the 2009 SL. Sales numbers were far less and much slower than expected on the CLK 63 and there is nearly no demand or serious (buyers w/checkbook in hand) customer interest on the upcoming SL 65 acording to some dealers in my area. When Ferarri, Porsche or Aston Martin releases a limited run super car or GT, people are lined up at the dealerships with check books in hand as well as offering up their first born son and they leave the dealership happy as pie when they are told their new F-car will be here in 24-28 months. I've heard that less than 25 of the SL's nationwide have a real buyer attached to the other end of the order. The way it was explained to me is that these Black Series cars are not created to be profitable for M-B, but to create more of a mystique and generate interest in the rest of the AMG line-up...a mear marketing tool for the rest of their cars, but it's not working. Let's hope this is the case and they keep building them, because I think they are awesome! My dealership has contacted all of their ultra high end clientel that has purchased SLR's, Black Series', Maybachs and AMG 65's, etc. letting them know they have at least one on the way and they have yet to recieve a deposit from any interested party.
I heard the final numbers were realesed on the SL65 Black $340,000 WoW! If it were a $100k less I'd have my name on the first one.
