SL55 turbine wheels onto e55 ?
quick question.
i have 19" type 4 reps on my car, and i think they make the car uncomfortable on rough motorway surfaces..( roads are pretty crappy here in the uk)
as i spend 90% over my time at about 85mph, i think i am gonna go back to 18"..
does the stock turbine wheel off the SL55 fit, and also, anyone got any pictures?
i think it will look mean with them on

i know what your saying about the CLS..the 19" type 4 looks crap on the CLS as well, but that looks excellent on the E.
i think that the sl wheel would be inkeeping with the discreet look of that car...as i dont want to go back to the stock rim..i just fancy a bit of a change.

I used to have a set on my E55. I'll see if I can find the pics I took of them, but I ended up concluding fairly quickly that they didn't look that great on the W211 chassis. Plus, the turbine style rims are like anchors from a weight standpoint. I think the fronts and rears both weighed in excess of 30 lbs. each. On the more positive side, you normally can find these very cheap - maybe $400 - $600 for a complete set.

+1...I just don't think they match the character of the car. Good luck though...there are tons of wheels out there. Just stay away from chrome...given the weather you have in the UK.

Offsets are probably okay. My wheel chart shows two AMG sizes for a W211:
The SL55 AMG Style 5 wheels (aka "Turbine") are definitely 18x8.5 ET30 and 18x9.5 ET33. I have an extra set in my garage and double checked to be certain.
I like the look of the Style 5s but other folks might not. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.
If you decide you are interested in the Style 5s I'd be willing to sell you my extra set for what I paid. I bought them planning to mount track tires on them but haven't yet gotten around to it.
- 18x8 ET30 and 18x9 ET39

There's no doubt, though, that the best solution from a weight standpoint would be a nice set of forged wheels.

WIth this off-set the W211 can use the 255 or 265 front tire and then a 285 rear with no rubbing. I have a set of wheels from an SL on my DD E350 and they work perfectly.
I have tried the 255 and 285 combo with the ET 30 and 33 you mentioned and they do rub a bit in the rear. They were not bad but you did get black marks on the upper part of the fender lip.
The 35 and 40 ET is actually about PERFECT for a wheel that is 8.5 and 9.5 inches wide on the W211.
I agree though the style is kind of not great with the E55. The trouble is he 18 inch amg wheels from the SL dont have an offset that works on the W211.
Good luck

You mentioned "alphard" and I think you might mean these wheels:

18x8.5 ET 30 will work in the front but you can't go much wider without having the top of the tire hit the wheel arch when you ar turning and hit a dip.
18x9.5 ET33 will work in the rear, but 285s will SLIGHTLY rub on the top of the arch. Again, slightly. 275s roll no problem. Also, keeping them to 18s helps you as well with more aggressive offset.
Sorry, but my vote is also no. i barely liked the look on the SL.
