How scary is it to be out of warranty?
In the case of engine failure, transmission, airmatic, ac, oh hell, many other electrical part failures it will eat that 3-4K up like pancakes at IHOP. To be more cost effective, I opted for the MB 100K warranty and just be done with it, and leave the money in the ING account as well.
In the warranty or not debate it really depends on what model car you have. On up from the 500/55/63/65 series I think the warranty will be more cost effective. No worry on increase of prices, or chance of wiping your stash out.
They looked up my car by VIN and offered me the same warranty that was offered by chryslerservicecontracts.com & other resellers for about a thousand less than what the resellers were quoting. Most everyone else quoted me around $2600, but the price I was quoted today was $1700.
I sent over the info to my service advisor and he reviewed the coverage & also verified that the warranty would be accepted at the dealership.
Just fyi for anyone else that doesn't have the option of a factory warranty & is looking for coverage.

EG: your radio stops working- this is not related to your engine mods and the dealer would be hard pressed to not cover your claim. But I do know of some dealerships that would try. Now if you gutted the speakers, added amps and other stuff- they may have standing.
