Anyone Also Own a V10 M5/M6?

I have been thinking about jumping ship to the M5. I guess i am looking for a car that is more "connected" to the road.... I love the brute force of the E55 but the handling leaves more to be desired. I just like all the diffrent adjustments you can make to the M5.
Also do most of the m5 owners drive with the paddles or keep it in auto?

M5 here. I used to have an SL55 (no I didn't actually own it). The SL55 was more of a muscle car. The M5 has the feeling of a sports car. You'd be suprised how quick it is in S6 mode. The tires chirp on every shift and it's almost violent. It's also very confidence-inspiring. It's an exceptional machine.
Here is my post on the off-topic section:
Here is my post on the off-topic section:
I just got an 06 M5 SMG in Sapphire Black with a Black extended leather interior including alcantara roof and aluminum trim. The car is fully loaded.
Let me say that this car is INCREDIBLE. The reason I was going for this car in the first place was I needed something a bit more civilized and something with more space than my Z06, but I wanted something that I wouldn't get completely bored with. I come from the land of AMG's and although they are torque monsters, they bore me...plus the look of the M5 is definitely a little more youthful and aggressive. So yeah, I came into this car expecting a nice daily driver that I could cruise around in, use for work and long trips on the weekends, and a car that'll go when I'm bored.
After the 1st day of ownership I was VERY suprised. It is extremely comfortable on it's soft suspension setting and while keeping it in D, there is no issue just commuting back and forth and daily driving it. Very smooth, very soft...I could trust it in the hands of my girl or my mom. It reminds me of my dad's 750Li. He even drove it and said it's as smooth as his car (with the exception of the smg, but even that he didn't complain about, he said its just different).
I set up M mode for the stiffest suspension settings, P500 Sport, and S5 tranny with M-dynamic mode. When I hit the M button, everything changes. Throttle response, power...everything. The car becomes a complete animal. I can throw it around turns with extreme confidence. It's glued to the road, but when you take the corners too fast or give it too much throttle, you can feel the limits and it's so easy to control it. Much much better than the SL55 I used to drive and even my Z06. The steering in this car is more connected than my Z06. Brakes are also great.
Now, handling, braking, luxury, and comfort all recieve an A in my book. But what about raw speed? Well, this car may not be a rocket, but the way it builds speed is friggen awesome. It has really cool top end and the faster you go, the stronger the acceleration is. I've only hit 130 so far but I definitely feel that it's strong point is higher speeds. It also feels SOLID up top. I was cruising at 100 and it felt like I was doing 60. My Corvette also had this feeling, but the difference is that when I hit a bump or an imperfection in the road with the M5 it just goes over it and takes it no problem whereas the Vette would wiggle. The shifts on S6 mode are really cool and crisp. Tires chirp and the feeling when you approach redline is really nice. I also think the tone of the V10 is to die for.
So there you have it. I came from a modified Z06 and also from AMG's and I give this car a huge thumbs up. Its a sports car in luxury sedan form. I never thought such a perfect combination could be made but somehow BMW pulled it off with this one.

I figure she will still be able to sling it in D and go while I paddle.

Go for the M5, you'll fit just fine, the lady can drive it (albeit not very smoothly at all), which just means that you'll get more wheel time.

E55 or CL600, if I could make up my mind
Really ? Never sat in an M Coupe, but the Z4 fits me surprisingly well for such a small car, and I'm 6'7". Might be the soft top that gives more headroom, though.

I went from a P-car to the MB. My wife and I were trying to have kids and in preparation I wanted a sports sedan to more easily put a child seat in. I went to look at the M5 at the local BMW dealer and when I suggested to the sales guy I was interested in the M5 he looks at me and the other sales guys nearby and laughs in my face that he cant get one for me to test drive and if interested gonna have to wait atleast a year. Then he tried to sell me a 550 and that wasnt what I was looking for obviously. I went to the MB dealer down the street and havent driven a BMW since. I am on my 2nd MB AMG since this visit to BMW, and though I have always liked the cars cant get over the experience or attitude that went along with it. And now that I cant see going back anytime soon. I love my AMG!
It will be a LONG time before I ever think about going back.
FYI I have had 4 BMWs in the early 90's that were fairling modified. Fun cars for the road but torque always seemed to be an issue.

As a CLK55 guy, it's a toss up. Somedays I like the M5 and others the E63. Today it's the M5. It's great to have a true 4-door sports car, and the M5 definitely fits the bill to a tee.
